2017 - G - Greg Elliott (Target)

If he receives an MSU offer, which seems like a real possibility, then that is certainly bigger than Michigan from a recruiting profile standpoint.

Got it. I readily admit that when involved with the teams I mentioned, that those are perceived ā€œbiggerā€ than UM. Guess my maize and blue glasses don’t see MSU as much different as far as recruiting profile is concerned.

it’s an arbitrary benchmark, but an Izzo offer would go a long way toward convincing me, because I’d love for JB to take an ā€œIzzoā€ type player–that’s what I think Hunter (2018) is too. I know we got Livers, but he less fits the mold of an ā€˜izzo’ player, and that’s not a knock on Livers, it just means I dont think he fills this particular void that the team has. But that puts a lot of pressure to nail an elite creator, in the 2018 cycle, with only one ship to work with.

Hard to deny that MSU is recruiting at a different level than Michigan right now as much as it pains me to admit it. We can change that in 18, and adding Greg to the 17 would make us a top 25 class.

Highlights I just released of Greg’s 42 point, 10 rebound, 2 block performance last night. Not much I can add in terms of evaluation exclusive of what I’ve already said. Only thing I’d add is that with Dave out, Greg looked damn good out of PnR as the ballhandler, hitting 3s off the bounce and getting to the rim and finishing after reading the defense as well.

Might sound crazy but I see a shorter Manny Harris with a little better handle. Like how he gets low on his handle and powers up when attacking.

I see some Manny in his game. Greg is unselfish though and not as ball dominant.

I’m not completely sold, but I’m hearing strong rumors from multiple people that Bowen is going with Arizona…that is odd with him currently on MSU’s campus. But I’ve been hearing this for a few weeks now. It does makes sense to the extent that Izzo shows up yesterday and Greg is now visiting tomorrow though.

Elliott should be offered, Bamba be damned… That’s my very unscientific opinion.

Do you think we could beat teams by 20 if we had Elliot?

I was assured (by you) this year’s team wasn’t good enough to beat any team by 20.

Hopefully he has a better off the court personality than Manny!

This is still a mediocre team, with a mediocre roster. The season has, and will continue to prove that out whether they have a singular blowout win in the books or not.

Will you be taking questions about 3:30 tomorrow when they get beat?

The mediocre word kills me.

What does tomorrow have to do with this? You literally said that this team wasn’t good enough to beat any team by 20+. Two games later they won by 30. Admit you were wrong and move on.

I like Elliott, and I’d offer him. But I do like Carmody better. There’s probably room for both, and I’d rather take a sure thing than wait to see what Carmody and Ryan do.

I thought Dylan posted the other day that Elliott was shooting 29% from three. I’d like to see that percentage higher, but still, I like him.

Honest question, though - in terms of athleticism, I’d say a guy like Que Johnson is as athletic as Elliott. Would it shock anyone if that’s what Elliott became (which isn’t terrible, but you could certainly justify not offering).

Think there is a huge skills gap between Greg and Carmody. Carmody’s only real edge is his size but I like him and people are certainly within their right to prefer him. Think he is also far more efficient than Que and an all-around stat stuffer.

Personally, I want to see a few more guards get offers in 2018. Ryan is good but I worry about redundancy with Poole and Carmody is far from a Michigan lean.

Think you might’ve responded to me by mistake. Greg>Carmody in my opinion. I’m still a HUGE fan of Carmody though.

I’d rank the long term ceiling of the three like this

Greg
Cormac
Carmody

For instant impact in 18 I’d rank them like this

Greg
Carmody
Cormac

For overall 2 way impact

Greg
Carmody
Cormac

Is he really a wing at the next level at 6-3?

Was Zack Novak really a power forward at 6’3?

Greg plays like he’s 6’6 and has a 6’6.5 wingspan. I definitely think he’s a wing at the next level

Yeah, meant to quote LA and I agree on your rankings. Really hope they expand their board because there are a lot of nice perimeter prospects in the 2018 class.
