2017 - G - Greg Elliott (Target)

I want both tbh. Would be up there with Nik and Caris as a wing duo.

If they really plan to pursue a Damion Lee/Rodney Pryor type of grad transfer then I can live with thatā€¦otherwise that is very unfortunate.

I truthfully donā€™t know to be honest, Iā€™ve just been following the convo and wanted to help/answer.

Yes ā€“ I did point out that you kept repeating yourself over and over in that thread too.

In this thread you are trying to frame that argument over Greg to be ridiculously basic ā€˜whether heā€™s a high-major playerā€™ and then moving on to argue that itā€™s a no brainer to offer him for Michigan ā€“ a much more complicated question.

In reality, as I just mentioned, there is a lot to consider for Michigan to offer him at this point. Weā€™ve established how you feel, but it isnā€™t the only way that a rational person could feel and if someone else disagrees with you it doesnā€™t mean that one of you is wrong ā€“ just have different opinions.

Yeah, I canā€™t think of too many legitimate reasons not to establish a relationship and have a scholarship in queue unless they feel confident in Bamba, an elite grad transfer or simply donā€™t believe in Greg as a stylistic fit in their system. Iā€™ve seen the argument JB should take Brandon Johns to keep him away from Izzo so that would be something to consider here.

Agreed, but based on the ā€˜fitā€™ criteria that you say correlates with my post aboveā€¦I literally cannot see a single argument as to why we would not offer. Doesnā€™t seem all that complicated to me at all. Unless of course, you simply donā€™t see Elliott as a high major player in terms of talent.

And I do not recall you pointing out anything to me with respect to Eli Brooks, but agree that its pointless to carry on about it.

Someone making a bad argument doesnā€™t mean it should apply to another argument.

Its not the argument Iā€™d use but I just want some of my antagonistic friends on here to be consistent lol.

The other side is bank it for this class and give it to Tim Finke!! El oh el

Because rankings or something.

To go along with your 2 guard/wings theory, could it be that some here are hoping we land 2 in '18? I think at that point it comes down to player preference. I like Greg, and if we end up with him Iā€™m completely ok. I also like Cormac a LOT, and some of the others weā€™ve offered/mentioned. I hope we get 2, no matter what year. And yes, waiting on Bamba (even if it is just a 20% chance) imo is maybe worth going waiting on a Greg offer

Thing isā€¦bird in hand? Donā€™t think anyone should feel confident on Carmody, Bienemy is still in the preliminary interest stage along with a few other names, and what if Ryan gets a Duke offer?

Heā€™s falling in the rankings, so that no longer applies lol

I have no intel on Cormac Ryan, I have not spoken with him. I can tell you that we do not lead for Robby Carmody, and if you put a gun to my head now, Iā€™d say he lands elsewhere.

Absolutely a risk, which is why Iā€™m ok with a Greg offer/commit. But if weā€™re trying to raise the bar and pursue gaurds/wings in '18, then we have to compete against some of those other schools on the recruiting stage.

The other piece here is if weā€™re being biased on Greg because of your (and Mattā€™s) familiarity? Not an accusation, but just donā€™t want it to be considered too big of a miss when there clearly is rationale behind it. The fact that Izzo is getting on board is the first true sign that Gregā€™s development should be taken extremely seriously

Iā€™m also on record as saying, assuming they get along well, that I love the idea of reuniting Greg and Dave in '18. Having cohesion in the backcourt is extremely important, so knowing ahead of time that chemistry wonā€™t be an issue is a real plus for anyone advocating we offer Greg now

I explicitly admit, and have admitted, that Iā€™ve known Greg for 5 years. So you have to account for that. That said, I was not on board with Greg at all last year, and Guestavo can confirm that. I thought he was a mid-major player to be candid. After watching him extensively in EYBL, and the first half of this year, I simply cannot deny that he is worth a Michigan offer, and that I think heā€™s exactly what this team needs as a 2 way player.

Objectively, Greg Elliott is Michigan material. The question is starting to become whether Greg Elliott becomes bigger than Michigan material.

Bias does not play into my evaluation and I own anything I say about a prospect whether I turn out right or wrong.

Thanks gents. Again, wasnā€™t an accusation at all.

No, I didnā€™t take it that way at all. Its totally understandable.

What exactly would you consider bigger than Michigan material? Unless you are referring to Kentucky, Duke, Zona, KUā€¦at which point, though I am not a scout like you, I just find that unlikely in regard to Greg Elliotā€™s talent level (perceived based on current interest of such teams).
