I also think it’s time to start looking at a new assistant coach or two. They are not getting the job done.
I think that is a ridiculous statement. Has recruiting been far less than ideal, yes. But, how have the results on the court been? You know, the stuff that actually matters…
Not that great as of late.
Not calling you out mpbear14, but I think this statement is the problem we’re having as a program. We only had one bad year. ONE. Two years ago we were a Harrison 3 away from a potential Final 4 berth, and three years ago we were in the NC game.
I think we’re doing enough to make these players’ lists for consideration, and then short-term memory kicks in. I realize we weren’t landing players this time last year either, but I just think we’re in the unfortunate position of needing to establish ourselves as a consistent top team for several years without any blips before we’ll start landing the top tier guys. And the timing just couldn’t be worse when Izzo makes another miraculous FF run, Maryland has all the pre-season hype, and the blue bloods will always be a challenge regardless.
Yes, we’ve had recent success. I’m confident we’ll be a regular tourney team with Beilein. But since the 2012 class, have we gotten the guns to make it back to the Elite 8?
We have nice players. Tourney team players. But if you want to be Elite, you need some stars. Plus the game has changed and I think you need more athleticism around the hoop (offensive and defensively).
I give them credit for getting in the mix but I also think we need to prioritize better and close. It’s like we’re swinging for the fence and completely striking out. At some point you have to evaluate the situation, swing for contact, and add up your singles and doubles.
Yup, I know Simpson is a longshot and that’s probably putting it nicely, but I really liked his game from what limited film I saw. Te’Jon Lucas would be a good option if he wants to come.
I think we currently have better than tourney team players. Last years class is giod and deep. Plus they should stick around. We’re pretty stacked for the near future. Rahkman for the win.

We are in no way shape or form “stacked for the near future” unless you simply mean this year. Caris is gone next year and likely Irvin too which is the extent our our high end permiter talent.
At the end of the day I don’t think Beilein has the stomach to go through extended recruitments. He has always been big on people that want to run through a wall and play at Michigan. The problem with that is Michigan isn’t the only option for these kids and they can play out the recruitment. If you include the word that Beilein doesn’t always show the love to recruits I can see why kids wouldn’t stick around and want to play for Beilein. Recruiting has fallen off the last 2.5 years and I am not sure it’s going to get better. Beilein has 4 years left on his contract in another year or so these kids usually want to make sure the coach that recruited them will stay around. Beilein can’t make that commitment to kids right now.
I disagree with the assistant coach comment. Coach BA and Coach Jordan have done a great job, and I would think they are grooming coach Jordan to be the heir apparent for when JB retires.

People have said Jordan is a very good recruiter but he is somewhat hand tied by Beilein. The issue with the idea of him being the heir apparent is if that’s the case Beilein needs to start giving him more freedom. Why would Beilein want Jordan to be strapped with a roster filled with under recruited kids and lack of highly touted players?
I haven’t verified this yet but I have been told that Simpson Committed to Michigan on Sunday. The person who told me this is connected to Illinois Basketball program. He told me he thinks. So it’s not concrete.
Worth sharing though. I’ll believe it when I see it.

That’s interesting since Jordan is in Milwaukee right now.
