Really interested to see if JB checks out Winston at 11am…or does he check out Jamal Murray…who plays at the exact same time at the exact same facility, or does he check out both. For those of you not familiar with Boo Williams, it is a huge complex. It is split into two sides, with 4 courts on each side…but that’s not all, as Nike EYBL tournament games are also simultaneously held at local high schools/rec centers in order to accommodate the massive amount of teams. In general though, all the college coaches stick to attending the actual Boo Williams Sportsplex because that is where the greatest amount of talent is concentrated within one site…there are literally hundreds of college coaches there in the designated coaches area (usually behind the rim or far baseline). It’s mass chaos, but also easier for the coaches to be incognito if possible.
Man JB has lots of choices…Winston, Murray, and Tyus Battle all playing at 11am at the same facility, within 150 feet from each other. Will be an interesting day to track JB
And we have our answer…JB chooses to check out Winston and The Family first. I think that may be indicative of how our standing is in relation to Murray.

Also of note, JB checked out Quentin Goodin last night.

Looks like Winston had a pretty good game in front of JB. Of note that Brailen Neely (16 pg) of Detroit Western absolutely killed the Arkansas Wings. I’ve seen him in person several times, the kid can flat out score. He doesn’t strike you as a kid with high major size or athleticism, but every time I see him, he simply gets it done.

Goodin plays the Adidas Circuit, Beilein was watching Tyler Cook. He had 19&9
Just to clarify on a mistake earlier…JB watched Winston, but not at the expense of Murray, who is currently playing in the Nike Summit. Unless Battle is still hurt, it does appear that JB did watch Winston rather than Battle.
Watching this Nike Hoop Summit, Murray is a big time player. He’s definitely a scoring PG and has been the best player on the court. Simmons and Labissiere are the best prospects but Murray is more than ready to play college ball next year and most likely be a one and done player.

Murray has been outstanding, but to label him a PG is really questionable. He’s probably passed the ball 2-3 times the entire second half despite having the ball in his hands 90% of the time. No doubt a great talent but he’s out to get his much more than setting up his teammates.
Last play was really indicative of what Im talking about. Murray had the ball at the high right wing. Get the pick from Diallo, the big hedges hard and Murray holds the ball too long looking for his own rather than the quick dump…ends up turning it over when he realized he had nowhere to go.
That’s fair. His decision making down the stretch has left a lot to be desired. I would say scoring PG which is becoming much more common nowadays vs. the classic set up PG. Whatever position you play him at, you are going to want the ball in his hands.
And just like that another selfish play from Murray…might cost his team the game. The guy hasn’t met a shot he doesn’t like.
Webb - I preface this by saying that I love Jamal Murray’s game (would much rather have a guy that is determined to get a shot off vs a tentative guy), and have stated so on several occasions. In fact, I like him more than Battle.
That being said, he’s not a PG in my opinion. I know you pretty much disagree with everyone here all the time (so I don’t take it personal), but there are people that see the exact same thing I’m seeing…I don’t post stuff just to post garbage.
One thing that I wish Murray would do is hit the roll man more off of PnRs. Doesn’t even look at them right now.

JB flew from Hampton and is now in Dallas for Adidas Gauntlet
Winston and Ramsey squared off…don’t know if they were checking each other, but it appears that Mr. Winston had quite the game.

Has everything on the Derryck Thornton front cooled off?
Here is some film from the UD vs Western game at Calihan, kind of demonstrates a bit of my amateur scouting report in terms of Cassius' inability to stay in front of his man on defense as well as his ability to control the game offensively. But he did struggle to get separation unless he has a screen.

Nothing happening there. Headed to Duke, might be reclassifying to 15.
