2016 - Forward Recruiting (Seth Towns, etc.)

Should definitely help in our pursuit of Towns

B1G recruiting: 4-star 2015 Plano (TX) F Mickey Mitchell announced he has re-committed to Ohio State. https://t.co/jpvqEqOLmO

Michigan in watching Towns today at Northland.

UCLA, OSU, Harvard also there

With Ahmad committing to WVU, I could see this leading to OSU pursuing Towns heavily. This would imply to me that is a likely destination (along with UCLA). I really like Towns game as well, and really think he would flourish in Beilein’s system. But only time will tell. The staff will have to keep pursuing the 2016 class very heavily.

While two schools in attendance, Ohio State and UCLA, have yet to offer Towns, the major player in the gym seemed to be Michigan and assistant coach Bacari Alexander. Spending some time with Alexander concluding Thursday’s action, Towns spoke the school that is the early favorite on 247 Sports’ CrystalBall.

“You know, it’s a great system, great school,” Towns said. “[Alexander] was talking about how I fit just right into their program, I mean, I can’t argue with him, so I’m just looking forward to seeing how things work out.”

Meeting with OSU and UCLA as well on Thursday, Towns spoke a bit on his interactions with two schools that many feel the 6-foot-8 junior could wind up at.

“They’re coming at me pretty hard, talking about how I fit into their systems, and how I would be a great addition to their programs,” Towns said. “Right now, I’m just sitting back, seeing how things work out, you know, whoever shows me love, I show love back to.”

Towns now a 4star on ESPN & #57 overall. Hope this isn't another situation where we seemingly lead early, only to fade late

I have a sneaking suspicion that he’s not as high on our board any more. Temperature seems to have cooled dramatically since he made that tweet looking for other suitors. I guess time will tell and actions will speak louder than words, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we “lose” and yet the staff are fine with that outcome.

I hope not because I’m a fan of Towns. Think he would be a really nice fit.

Iowa State and Stanford are coming in today to check in on 2016 (OH) @seth_towns17 of the @VCCOhioWarriors - expect offers if he does him.

Interesting development they are going for another 6-10 wing forward type. Maybe they are planning to take at least one of Leaf, Davis, or Cook.

Nick Ward and Joey Brunk are on the radar as well.

Wonder if its related to the current frontcourt and what they see.

interesting how much Stanford is involved in Midwest now. Is this a new development?

Yeah, didn’t include them in the 2016 crop. It is very interesting and does beg the question of why they seem to be looking that way.

Glad to see JB staying on Towns

Yesterday head UM Coach Beilein & Asst. Iowa Coach Francis were in to see Seth Towns @ his open gym!

Different players. Leaf is a 3/4, Davis and Cook are 5s. But yes, I wonder what the reason is they're still looking at 5s. Probably just in case. Keeping the lines of communication open/interest apparent kind of thing.

Cook not a 5 in my opinion, more of a 4…at least in a traditional sense. Even in our offense, he can shoot the ball from the high post

They’re looking at bigs because “you never know” in recruiting. Somebody has a career ending injury (Cronin), Teske changes his mind, someone transfers. It’s one of the great things about Beilein and his staff that they don’t stop looking at prospects.

Although I would love him to commit, the timeframe may be good for Michigan to give Leaf’s recruitment some time to play out. I think he wants to make a decision in the spring and will visit Michigan early in the year. So it’s possible we know what Leaf wants to do before Towns even though Towns initially looked like he may be an early commit.

Hopefully we exceed expectations in terms of on court performance, I would think a 3rd straight S16 would really help us in terms of recruiting.
