2016 - Forward Recruiting (Seth Towns, etc.)

2016 5-Star Power Forward TJ Leaf Hosting Five Schools
2 minutes ago
With the Men’s Basketball Recruiting Calendar opening up on Tuesday, September 9th, juniors will see coaches come by their schools to evaluate them and seniors will see them either at their school, in their homes or a combination of both. TJ Leaf, the fourth-highest rated power forward in the Class of 2016, will host coaches from Arizona, Michigan, UCLA, Florida and Xavier this week.

Leaf will visit Duke on October 25th for their version of Midnight Madness.

#Michigan coaches will see five-star forward T.J. Leaf on Friday morning, he tells me: http://t.co/c8OG51Korh

Seth Towns was as solid as usual for the Vikings. Should be some big time coaches in the gym for him this month

2016 SF @MilesBridges01 also hearing from NC State, Pitt, Michigan, Ohio State, FSU

Definitely recall Bridges not being overly enthused about Michigan in some past interviews. Obviously that can change, but was not thinking he was going to be a prospect with high mutual interest.

2016 PF Tyler Cook (@KingCook_25) was visited by #SLU, #Mizzou, #Kansas, and #Michigan today.

'16 Columbus Northland SF Seth Towns tells me UCLA, Michigan, Harvard, Iowa, and Northwestern, among others, will be in to see him Thursday

Iowa State, Michigan, Dayton, Xavier and Bowling Green were at Gahanna tonight for '16 PF/C Nick Ward

Towns now a 4star on ESPN & #57 overall. Hope this isn’t another situation where we seemingly lead early, only to fade late

May help us out with Leaf

Four-star 2015 forward Juwan Morgan (@juwanmorgan23) of Waynesville (MO) committed to Indiana tonight. http://t.co/mOjptzNkw1

I’m hoping the mass departures of anyone over 6’6" would also scare him away!

Seth Towns - Basketball Recruiting - Player Profiles - ESPN

Come to think of it, is there ever a player that we lead early for and kept the lead for several months while he was recruited by other schools right up until his commitment? Chatman, maybe?

Generally speaking, prolonged recruitments don’t go well for us. I think we may have courted Irvin for a while and maintained as the frontrunner throughout, but other than that I can’t really think of any. We seem to be the placeholder/leverage for a number of recruits.

Per his mother, '16 Columbus Northland SF Seth Towns is also being visited by Ohio State, Stanford, Wisconsin and Dayton today. Big day

MGoSeth. Hopefully Michigan identifying him early and sticking with him this whole way will mean something up until the end.

And I also hope our coaches don’t cry to try to get a recruit like Krzyzewski did with McGary.

Have to say the staff is going all out for 16

About time they finally took recruiting seriously.

Obvious sarcasm taken, but I honestly believe our staff approaches recruiting in a much more conservative manner in relation to other coaches. I get the vibe that our coaches don’t ‘beg’ kids to come…but in today’s recruiting climate, that’s pretty much what you have to do unless you are UK or Duke…just the way it is.

I think we've discussed this before and I know what you're saying. But a definite positive outcome of this approach is you kind of separate the wheat from the chaff, meaning the flakes, or kids who need their egos stroked, won't come here. It's tough because obviously a lot of the elite talents are used to being told how great they are, getting special treatment, etc., and through that environment can come to depend on it. But the elite talents who are humble, desire to work, enjoy trying to be the best they can be for themselves, rather than attention from someone else, tend to do better.

Can’t really see us going hard after this kid with Teske already in the mix…Ward is strictly a 5 in my opinion. Not really all that impressed by the film either

Should definitely help in our pursuit of Towns

Wow - didn’t see that one coming. Didn’t his brother transfer out to head home already? Sure hope he adjusts well…rough situation.
