I don’t think its necessarily limited to the lack of a good outside shot, he’s simply no threat at all to score anywhere in the paint. Watching him attempt to get separation, and proceed to get cut off by Cassius Winston of all people, was a revelation indeed for me. That tells me he has a long way to go before he is rotation worthy, let alone starter worthy.
I think my biggest fear is that none of the 2016 class turns into legit B10 two-way players. That seems like a real possibility based on everything we know now. That would hurt the program tremendously. Obviously way too early to make a conclusion at this point though.
I am most confident in Teske. I think he shows flashes defensively and as long as he can catch the ball, set screens, and dunk then I’ll be happy.
I am much more confident that he’ll be fine than most here. It’s written all over his face that he’s overwhelmed and playing tentatively but I think that’s fear/embarrassment of making a mistake which has undermined his confidence. I’ve seen Winston look downright awful this season but State doesn’t have a choice but to keep playing him.
That’s what I referred to earlier, I really can’t stand scary dudes. I’d rather have a guy going 100mph that you have tell slow down (think McGary)…those are the types that become dependable down the road because they refuse to back down.
Maar has shown in the past that he can create. I do agree with him that zak needs to ride the pine at times. That said I wasn’t feeling that way today. He was bad yes but he wasn’t forcing things like in the past so I didn’t think what he did was bench worthy.
I don’t think Maar would have changed much today though. I was pretty disgusted that he had mcquaid on him and was playing passive and not looking to drive. His confidence is lost this season. Really disappointed. I felt like when they were struggling early that they should have exploited that match up.
Also we needed Wagner to get way more touches down low today. They couldn’t guard him. Foul trouble hurt but still he should have had huge numbers today.
It’s ok I feel good about splitting with them.
X has now played a total of 79 minutes in 9 B1G games.
Yes I like teske. Still want to know why he didn’t lay or dunk that o board though today. He brought it out for no reason when he had an easy two.
As far as x go I think he has potential to be a great defender/ distributor. He has nice vision. If they work to get open he will find them it seems.
That’s a bit less than 9mpg, no?
Just a little more than 8.
Yep, just corrected my previous post. I’m honestly surprised he gets that much after what I witnessed during practice.
Curious? What have you seen this year that would indicate he can be an above average defender playing 30+ minutes a game next season?
Who x? I don’t think x has been bad defensively at all. I think he’s gonna be a solid defender and a nice passer. I’m not confident in much else. He doesn’t look very good.
Also who said I want him Starting or playing 30 minutes? I’m the biggest advocate on the board right now of getting a grad transfer next year at the point if bamba passes. I’d much rather see x playing 15-20 minutes next year as the back up from what I’ve seen. I’m very worried that if we roll with x and Eli that we are limitingour chances of being good next year. I like our chances next year if we can bring a loaner in.
What have you visually seen from him on the court THIS year that has you projecting him as a great defender going forward?
How many practices have you watched? I actually think he’s regressed some. Initially I think they were really hoping to at use him and Walton a lot more in the backcourt together. It’s been a slower process made slower by losing some confidence. (My view only.)
Have seen him twice live for full practices. The most recent being the day before the Iowa game
No way in hell we win at IU
No Blackmon or OG?
We beat them by 30 when they had Blackmon.
We are in better shape then we were a couple of weeks ago but still don’t like the thought we are going to have to win 2 or 3 on the road. Rutgers beat Purdue today, no easy games.
