My question for the board: why did MAAR not get the last 4 minutes over Irvin? I get that we needed Duncan out there, for shooting. But Zak had been literally horrible, and I get sitting MAAR with 4 fouls, but he should’ve been back out there at the end
Disagree, X actually looks better than Goodin as a passer and defender. Goodin is getting by on pure size/athleticism to this point and struggling.
Just don’t believe he can be a real factor in the half court offense. Has no outstanding skill to compensate for his all to real physical limitations.
Will never got to show up and down prowess at M.
If you expect him to be a scorer like Trey…then no, but I definitely see a TJ McConnell type within reach with seasoning.
Goodin’s 24% asst rate disagrees. Much better passer and creator in relation to X
Wins:
vs MSU
vs OSU
@ Indiana
@ Rutgers
@ Nebraska
These are games I think we win.
Steal one of…
@ Minnesota
@ Northwestern
vs Wisconsin
vs Purdue
…and we are a in regardless of the Big Ten Tournament IMO.
Nearly indistinguishable from X. Have to disagree but time will tell. Either way, Goodin was a miss for everyone who wanted him here when Cassius was clearly the talent of that bunch.
The fact that Goodin has the same TS%, rebound rate, and a lower steal rate despite his physical advantages over X is a downright shame.
Correction, Bruce Brown was clearly the talent of the bunch.
I know based on his EYBL numbers that data indicates he has produced against legit comp. But half court B1G bb is a different world for him going forward, IMO.
We need a difference maker at his position not a placeholder.
He was never an option. If we are just naming guys then I wanted Markelle Fultz during his junior year.
He was an option that the staff showed interest in, just didn’t pursue hard.
Fair enough, I just think people expect Trey when X’s value is going to be as a passer and defender who knocks down the occasional 3. Starter level, but not elite…easier to get elite talent on the wings.
Are you guys surprised Langford hasn’t made more of an impact? His shooting percentages are good but you don’t ever really notice him out there. I assume next year he will have a bigger role.
I definitely fear a staring backcourt of X and Rahk next year. I don’t think Rahk has played well this year and isn’t really much of an offensive factor. Next year, he will have to take on a bigger role with Irvin and Walton graduating.
Simpson has been beyond underwhelming. I just don’t know what he brings in the halfcourt but we’ll see what a year of maturity and development can bring. I do think Beilein is definitely worried about his future because I’m not sure he would have gone after PG’s in 3 straight classes otherwise.
I think the fear is he’s not starter level, at least for me it is. He doesn’t look like a B10 level player at this point.
Sure its a fear, but that comes with the PG learning curve. Maybe he doesn’t adjust and flames out but I think his data points at every level is worth giving him the time to develop and adjust for year 2.
Definitely have to give him until next year for sure.
Because MAAR is not a creator at all and can only shoot a set shot 3 ball which is also suspect.
When is the last time M had 14 OR in a B1G game?
To add the the Simpson talk, I think the passing is there and just needs to be refined and supported by a good shot. Most of the time when he passes out of a drive it ends up with a solid little play, either a corner three or like today where his pass split the defenders and found Donnal cutting to the rim who got fouled. The no look pass vs. Penn State also comes to mind. He plays so scared out there, I wonder how much comfort will impact his game in the future years.
