State orders department wide 14-day shutdown for Michigan Athletics

It’s especially tough that this is happening in the dead of winter. 20 degree weather isn’t real conducive to exercising outside…

They caught all those fish?

One positive from this that it could be a mental break from the grind of the season. Of course I don’t know if they needed one.

I have had that thought as well. Of course they are going to pay for it with 11 games in 28 days or whatever it is.

I’m simply going to be relieved to see them back on the court, healthy, and building the resume with however many game are left to reasonably play. And of course staying healthy along the way. T-minus 12 days, fingers crossed…

It will be interesting to see if MSU’s MBB team will be shelved again until at least Feb 13th. The latest order for MSU students (starting last Sunday morning, how did state get to play last night?) to go to “enhanced isolation protocol”. I didn’t see an exception for student athletes where students are to stay in there rooms except for getting food, medical care, go to class, or outside to exercise with two people.

Well there obviously is one since they just played

Just got an email from the athletic department to buy tickets for the virtual maize out vs Michigan State on February 6th. Should somebody tell them?

They’re going to sell tickets then offer to have your money donated to the athletic department after the game is cancelled. (/ducks)

Bots obviously are immune to COVID and are not subject to the shutdown.

EDIT: Oh I thought this was a new statement but now I see it’s just based on his podcast appearance from Saturday.

I have an unanswerable question, not really posed at Dylan or anyone. Do you think Warde has to publicly state “no practice, no facilities access whatsoever” to cover the AD’s bases or is it a truly accurate reflection of the state of athletics?

In other words if the hoops team can’t practice on the PDC courts, lift in the PDC gym, shoot on the PDC baskets at all…what can they do? What are they doing? Do Juwan and/or Sanderson have contingencies for a lockdown of this severity?

they’re ice fishing

besides that!

They are essentially quarantined other than walking outside and apparently ice fishing:

“It harkens us back to March when this first happened, when we shut the facilities down,” Manuel said. "That’s the big change: They’re at their homes, they’re in their dorm rooms, they’re allowed to go for walks and or jog by themselves, but that’s different than actually working on each of their sports.”

That portends extreme rust against Illinois, no?
