Yeah, screenshotted the wrong part I wanted to focus on.
Is there anyone or anything that has compiled these weekly reports over the last few months, or even back into the fall?
Just going back through my old emails it looks like 11, 22, 9, 9, 2, 6, 13 over the last few weeks.
Dylan, those numbers are what? Weekly Covid cases of just athletes, athletes/coaches/staff, or all students/professors/staff?
Athletes and staff
Athletes and staff.
I donât really see why the whole University data matters much. Am I wrong that students were not on campus for most of the last three months? They also donât have similar protocols in place.
Dylan, these are pretty consistent and low numbers.
Do we know if there are any new cases amongst menâs and womenâs basketball and hockey?
I would guess not otherwise Twitter would be ablaze.
That info isnât included in the release. I havenât heard of any or seen any reported, though.
I wish I had a drivewayâŚ
Yes, the data doesnât matter when the students are off campus. But I do think the entire university data is important in general. Iâm sure the athletes are doing more than most to remain siloed but these are young people after all.
Most of my students have all their classes online but theyâre still in Ann Arbor because theyâd rather be on campus than home with their parents. Even if theyâre not going to ragers they are still moving from small group to small group. I would be surprised if cases on campus and in the athletic department didnât rise and fall together.
Butâof courseâtheyâre trying to PREVENT an outbreak.
Sure would like to have a new-variant count in there. Certainly Iâm not alone in that, nor would the AD be surprised to learn that people want to know that.
I donât know why they donât identify which teams and staff are having the positives in the AD. They wouldnât have to identify the individuals so breaking privacy issues wouldnât be a problem.
It sets a precedent thoughâŚlike if in 2 weeks, Michigan has 1 positive test in the basketball program and thereâs 1 unidentified absence from a game, then you know who it is / why theyâre out.
On the Michigan Insider, a Warde Manuel podcast of this morning and written podcast summary are provided.
There is no mention of any possibility of any practices being allowed before the 14 day athletic department shutdown period ends.
It was mentioned that there were 11 new Covid cases this week for athletes, coaches, and staff.
Why was no info revealed as to the number of B117 VARIANT cases, if any, that are included in the 11 total new cases? No info is ridiculous!! The reason given last week for the shutdown was the COVID VARIANT!! Everybody should be made aware of the recent stats.
Here is a decent recap from The Detroit Free Press of Warde Manuelâs comments today on the Jon Jansen âIn the Trenchesâ podcast.
Thanks for posting. I hadnât seen that yet and donât listen to Jansen.
Short recap- they are treating it like a full two week shutdown. Total shock to the department. He confirmed no practice whatsoever. Each team has a plan to return to competition. Players are supposed to be out only for going on a walk basically.
