Yeah I am just not a fan. If he is who we end up with, I won’t be upset but don’t feel like he should be our first priority
As someone that saw Brandon play extensively throughout the EYBL season last spring/summer, against legit competition he served a Duncan Robinson role. Basically a catch and shoot guy, that didn’t rebound, post up, or handle much at all. That said, he played up a year, so maybe he needed that period to adjust to that level of competition/game speed.
This spring/summer will be paramount for Johns, if he doesn’t produce he’s going to basically max out in terms of offers, and some of them may no longer be committable. If he can show that he’s more than just a catch and shoot prospect, he’ll add a few offers. I suspect his offer sheet will never be congruent to his ranking outside of Scout.
Yes.
If you are a bigger guy being charged into by a smaller guy, you’re never going to get the call when the driver bounces off of you. Unfortunately, you need to sell it like a pro wrestler.
I know but it’s frustrating that you have to dive to the ground to get the call. I guess I was more mad they then called his hack. At least no call it both ways.
Yes, in reality. Only exception is the push off with the off arm. Refs will call that. Inside defenders have it tough these days because they are very limited in what they are allowed to do but the player with the ball can make contact and move them. In this case, Mo was the secondary defender, but his feet were outside the arc. Had Mo lurched back and hit the deck on contact, he would have gotten the call. But he was just trying to cut off the drive and make a play. Don’t think he actually fouled Jackson on the come back.

Tell his buddy Dave to keep chirping in JB’s ear.
Where do you see Elliot getting minutes his freshman year?
Michigan uses Xavier Simpson as a defensive specialist at this point, I think Greg is a better defender than Xavier right now as a senior in high school. Greg is also a better shooter than Xavier, and has better vision off PnR.
My guess is that he would likely fight with MAAR/Poole for 10-15 minutes a game if he can add 10-15 pounds over the summer. He’s just a really well rounded player that reminds me of George Hill.
Trust me, I didn’t think he was Michigan material either until I witnessed him consistently produce at the EYBL level. Putting up 10, 3, 3 as a fourth option is nuts.
To give this a statistical profile, Greg had a 19.4% assist rate as a fourth option, along with a 46.1 FT rate. Also had a steal rate of 2.3%
Elliot isn’t going to play over Poole or senior MAAR, IMO.
Is there anything Simpson does better than Elliot?
That’s the million dollar question…what does John Beilein value? (if he’s still around) If he values winning, its quite obvious he’ll play a defensive oriented player (Elliott) over a guy that is going to struggle mightily on defense (Poole). Now granted, Poole is a better shooter than Greg, but Greg is the better passer even though most probably won’t agree. In other words, I think Greg would have more impact as a 2 way player in relation to Poole as a freshman.
In my opinion, no. The one thing X does well, transition, Greg is better in that regard as well.
If he values winning, he will play Elliot over Poole? lol
I like Elliott’s film, but he plays like a guy who should be 6-6 in college, so I can see where size would be a bit of a concern. Not a three-point shooter (30% pretty consistently) and hard for freshmen to play early on if they can’t hit an open shot in this offense.
He’s good in transition, good length, athleticism, but seems like he’d check a lot of the Charles Matthews boxes (just not quite the measurables).
“If he’s still around”. What type of odds are you giving me on this? I say he’ll still be around.
Do you think JP will make an impact as a freshman as a 2 way player in a way that will help this roster be significantly better?
I don’t, because the one thing we need more than all else is perimeter defense. At least we have one average defender on the inside with DJ…our perimeter defense is absolutely awful on all levels, and Jordan Poole will not help that in my opinion.
For the record:
-Greg Elliot is better than Xavier Simpson at everything.
-Greg Elliot is better than Jordan Poole.
This will be interesting to revisit.
Have to disagree with 30%, as he shot 34% during EYBL (compared to 27 from Poole), and is likely shooting better than that in HS this year.
Also, its not hard for a freshman to play if they cannot hit an open shot in this offense…hello, Xavier Simpson.
I think Greg Elliott can help this team, but that’s just my opinion.
He’s my candidate for the 2017 version of Sumner.
