Podcast: On Juwan Howard, Michigan, and the fallout of an ugly scene at Wisconsin

“Dylan and Brendan discuss Juwan Howard striking Joe Krabbenhoft, the chaos that ensued, and what it means moving forward for all parties. Then they jump over to Michigan State and what the Spartans need to do to get back on track down the stretch.”

Lol this description makes me laugh. Feels like the Juwan thing needs it’s own episode

I totally disagree with Dylan’s take on Juwan’s press conference. Juwan totally whiffed on his chance to actually explain what caused him to take a swipe at the other coach and he completely whiffed on his opportunity to show some remorse and leadership.

The press conference stuff is obviously small potatoes compared to what happened on the floor, but to act like it didn’t matter at all is totally ignoring the PR component and how that, for better or worse, matters to a lot of people, including Warde, obviously.

That’s fair… I just am struggling to come up with any situation there that changes any of the reactions. I agree more with the “remorse and leadership” which there was obviously a complete absence of but the press conference was what 15 minutes after he was in a fight? What do people really expect is going to be said in that situation? The idea that he could explain what caused things or would explain it is never happening IMO. He wasn’t going to convince people he was right (he wasn’t right, obviously) and it wouldn’t come off well.

I was shocked there was a media session at all, and especially that players were made available.

Assuming coach Howard keeps his job, realistically what his path forward. I’m struggling to see anything positive for UM team. The players are young and can regroup but Howard’s future at Michigan doesn’t look good.

If it weren’t these two hosting the pod (thus we know better), it would deserve an “Oh no…Anyway” gif.

I kind of agree with this Dylan but also wish he would have just skipped the post conference until speaking with Manuel.

Listened to your podcast. (I am not sure if it was you or the co-hosts statement.). I am not sure if it was you but…

Giving statements 15 minutes after the tussle might have been a significant factor for his horrible presser but everyone knows that good people sometimes do wrong things. It is also normal for those same good people to feel and show remorse for the wrong things they did. It is also normal for people to forgive good people for doing a wrong thing after apologizing for the wrong things they have done.

The opposite is true. As more time passes there is no excuse for Howard not apologizing profusely. If Howard fails to apologize it actually “changes everything” about how he ought to be judged and rightfully so, imo.

I like Howard. I am not alone. I think most of us, who are disappointed, are begging for him to give us a reason to forgive him/trust him moving forward.

Hoping for the best.

It’s been less than 24 hours. Give him a chance. Especially now since the school will want him to wait til discipline is handed out to make a public statement.

Not many people will think clearly after one of the most heated moments of your career. It’s why post game pressers are often just a bunch of cliches and coach speak. Not a lot of time to relax and reflect.

…President Coleman has reached out to UW Chancellor Blank to apologize for the totally unacceptable behavior…

That says it all.

He learns from this and grows from it. It was a moment of immaturity and him letting his emotions get the best of him. It doesn’t make him a bad guy, coach, or incapable of leading his players.

I watched her give a speech to the crowd at halftime of a football game hammered. Who is she to judge?

Unfortunately for him, she is the president.
