Off Topic: 2019 Michigan Football

Great win last night but there are still some big games ahead. If they run the table it will be a very good season, if not well…

Feel good for the players and coaches. They’ve taken a lot of heat, much of it deserved, this year.

That said, the only way the offseason is relatively pleasant is if we beat OSU. Winning at home hasn’t really been a problem under this regime. 29-4 in Ann Arbor. Two losses to OSU and two fluky losses to MSU. 4-5 wins against top 15 teams in those 29 home wins.

Issue under Harbaugh has been road games and OSU. Gotta win some of those to turn the narrative around.

Personally, I have never been a fan of ND’s prima donna status and attitude (though it never occured to me that being Our Lady might make you a prima donna, funny); those guys have played it every which way as an “independent” for decades, often getting far more attention than they deserved. And Brian Kelly. . . not a good person, in my view.

So something as light in tone as this. . . perfect, in my view. For the record, Jimmy has wanted to continue to play this game because he loved the tradition. I’m frustrated if the reason that both we and they are letting it go is to rack up more wins for the committee. WTH. We are not going to outbid the bagmen anyway, let’s enjoy our football and traditions.

Positive side note from the game… World Wide Wes was at the football game yesterday and was spotted on camera on ESPN and a posted a tweet with him at the game. Probably means nothing overall because Wes is a Michigan fan but never a bad thing having him around.

The way I remember it growing up in Ann Arbor, if UM beat OSU we had 365 days of sunshine; if UM lost, it was 365 days of doom and gloom.

I’m guessing ND gets a little extra because of the BS way they cancelled the prior iteration of the rivalry.

World Wide Wes had lived in the Metro Detroit area for quite a few years and may still do.

First back to back wins against MSU since 06-07. Been a long time coming.

Wish we had that play calling all season. More first down passes then I can ever remember. Aggressive use of talent, what a concept.

Weird that the run game didnt look more like ND/Maryland, but maybe they figured they could save it for later. If Shea can throw like this AND makes 5-7 good keeps per game, the offense could actually look like preseason expectations

“It was an incredibly satisfying day for Michigan fans that have been clamoring for the Maize and Blue to take advantage of their weapons at receiver and tight end all season long. For one Saturday anyway, there should be no lamenting of wasted opportunities. Michigan attacked and attacked and attacked.”

MSU interior DL and LB are their strength. It was always going to be tough to run on them as they’re a legitimate run defense. Pass defense is something else entirely.

I wasnt expecting to rack up yards, just surprised that they reverted to mostly IZ/OZ instead of the gap blocking that they crushed ND with. And arc keepers being fully utilized has been a gripe all year, and we will probably never know if it’s because of Shea or coaching

Assuming it probably had to do with the type of defense those programs play. MSU sells out to stop the run most games and is a 4-3. ND is in a 3-4, but i can’t say much about their scheme beyond that. ND has struggled to stop the run most of the year, however.

Yep, back to back performances like this from Patterson have suckered me into hope for next weekend. Ugh.

Feel the same as last year, just more mentally prepared for it to go horribly wrong: avoid getting gashed via 3-step drops and scrambles, and maybe we make it uncomfortable for them.

Except we were favored to win last year. This year we’ll be probably around 14 point underdogs.

Although, yes, there is much less pressure to win this year.

Peaking at the right time, at home, and zero pressure since the CCG and CFB is out of the picture. It’s the right time for the streak to end. I don’t know that it will, but sure am more hopeful now. It looks like a genuinely good team. In these past four games legitimately good.

I refuse to have much hope. We’ve been burned far too many times for me to have hope.
