Off Topic: 2019 Michigan Football

I think big part of it is that I don’t think Harbaugh is that same 2016 guy anymore. I think there’s been some aspect of decline there. He’s clearly become more disorganized in both coaching and recruiting approach since then. 2016 was a long time ago, and it wasn’t even with his guys.

I still don’t love Warde, but if you presume that our only real options were Juwan or Cooley, he made the right choice. I’ll take the chance that he makes the common sense hire and goes after someone like Matt Rhule instead of Mike Debord

I’ll keep it respectful. I have no interest in insulting any posters here.

Well, if nothing else, this thread proves this is a basketball site.

A top ten team is “decent/good”? In what is arguably the best home field conditions in the country (the white out at night)?

Not to mention the absurd officiating with the PI calls/non-calls in the first half that had a tangible impact on points.

I would have thought that the RR/Hoke eras would have disabused us of our entitlement, but good lord.

I wish we’d hire the crowd/atmosphere coordinator @ PSU. Pay them $10M!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

 really? Did I just imagine the awful years with Hoke and RichRod? Five of the seven years after Lloyd and before Harbaugh did not reach that sleepwalk pace. And 1 of the remainder was 8-5.

The consensus at the time is that it was a horrible hire. He had a sub .500 record at MAC level schools and then people got into him after he repeated Michigan man tropes at the press conference. Go read the Mgoblog post from when he was hired.

As said, Hoke was an obviously horrible hire at the time. Rich Rod in retrospective from seeing his post-Michigan tenure was a mediocre coach. Who then had to deal with huge transition costs / the Michigan admin actively sabotaging him with brought him down another level

Guess he shoulda just sleepwalked through all the turmoil. Would have ended up with more wins!

This post is correct but shouldn’t have been necessary.

He was not considered a horrible hire at the time lol

He was 47-50 before he got to Michigan.

Hoke was a reach hire from the get go, but he was a “Michigan Man” so most paid little to no attention.

Now we have Jimmy who was supposed to be the QB guru and has landed multiple top 10 QBs yet still struggles to put together a meaningful offense.

That was his overall record yes. He left ball state undefeated and turned around SDSU

Most morons can sleepwalk into 8-4?

Did you not watch our team from 2008-2014?

Oh, and even Lloyd went 1-6 in his final seven against OSU, and that was when they had Tressel, a very good coach but not as good as Urban.

Really, Harbaugh’s biggest “sin” is that he hasn’t beaten OSU. Beat them in 2016 or 2018 and we likely make the CFB playoffs.

But, we were 2-12 against OSU from 2001-2014 before Jim ever got here.

I don’t get why people are so set on Rich Rod and Hoke as the baseline of Michigan football. Clearly they were not qualified for the job. One in hindsight and one obviously at the time (and as said Rich Rod had a lot of extenuating circumstances). The point is that 7-8 wins is an average college football team. Michigan has significantly more built in advantages than an average college football. Thus being average means you coached below average. It is by definition not insanely difficult to find an average coach
