Our defense came up huge today but our offense is still a Mess! Gattis is totally underperforming IMHO!

Is it really on Gattis that Shea Patterson is terrible? I don’t get why we didn’t see Milton today.

Perhaps it’s Gattis and Patterson stinking up the joint! I really don’t like the play calling though

At least Milton cam see over those inside rushers and has a cannon to get passes off under pressure. Shea is only good when everything is perfect around him.

Definitely not absolving Patterson but isn’t it on Gattis that the offense has regressed in every area and position group from a year ago? Patterson looks much worse this year, the OL looks worse, the running game looks worse and our star studded WR corps goes largely unused. What exactly is the offense good at?

Where are you seeing any ā€œspeed in spaceā€?

Patterson has not been good, but either way there hasn’t been any ā€œspeed in spaceā€

Every week when someone goes back and watches the game there are WRs running wide open that Patterson isn’t getting the ball to.

Preparation. Our forte.

This offensive play calling has been atrocious. Every receiver on this roster is a vertical threat, yet we refuse to try and stretch defenses. There was a third and twelve where no receiver ran a route beyond ten yards.

The lack of a difference maker at RB is evident. This stable of backs is steady, but uninspiring. Not enough ability to make defenders miss. Not enough home run speed.

Fully expecting Penn State to try to run up the score against the boys in a white-out in a couple weeks.

Not the RBs fault the run blocking has been awful. Turner and Charbonnet are both fast and athletic enough to get long runs. Our OL is just struggling with run blocking, which in their defense is hard to do out of the shotgun if the Qb isn’t a threat to keep the ball. I don’t see a lot of opportunities to break long runs.

The play calling is just a disaster. Army game, Nico had a catch and two PI penalties in the first half. And then we never threw it again. Today, he had a deep catch. Then only a couple targets the rest of the game. Our big 3 receivers should be getting 8+ targets each. No reason any of them should have less than 4 catches in a game.

-ready for McCaffrey when he’s able to go

-Don Brown made me change his mind about him today, again, for the thousandth time

McCaffrey had looked awful when he’s been in this season as well. Much worse than he looked in spot duty last year. I think Shea is limited and has made his own fair share of mistakes, but we could have Brady back there and the offense would still be struggling.

McCaffrey’s hardly thrown a pass this year. He still looked fleet on keeps.

I agree, but the reason they can’t get 8+ targets a game is because Patterson is incapable of getting past the first read on a consistent basis. If the staff can’t scheme the first read open, he’s really bad.

I do hope he really enjoyed golfing all summer. It’s served his teammates well.

And he’s lucky he doesn’t have a few interceptions under his belt because a few of his passes have been thrown right at defenders. His running is better, but with a concussion already this season, I don’t know how much they’d let him keep it if he did come back.

Yes and no. Patterson can be a solid passer when he gets in rhythm, but our play calling doesn’t allow him to do that. They’d rather run Eubanks on a bubble screen or to the flat for some reason.

He’s subpar against zone D. I’m being nice here.

Harbaugh hasn’t had a QB he trusts since Speight. And now that he’s not calling the plays, it’s going to be even harder. I don’t know how Shea’s going to earn that trust. No path leads there, it seems. With McCaffrey, at least it’s possible, and you have the QB keep threat.

He’s worse at literally everything this year. He seems so slow recognizing the defense each play, idk if him and Ruiz aren’t on the same page with line calls or what. Everything looks difficult and I have no hope it’ll get significantly better.

Northwestern established the playbook on how to stop Patterson last year. Every team has caught on. Just play zone the majority of the game and he’s terrible.
