NCAA 2021: Michigan vs. UCLA Open Thread

Sorry If I implied or even said I’ll look back at the season in agony. I meant this game in particular. You play this game 100 times and Michigan wins 92 of them IMO. Painful to lose this way only scoring 49 points.

But the season was great and making the E8 without livers met my expectations. But I’d have rather us got blown out than watch a game that was so easy to take fall short. The Michigan team that showed up maybe 25 of the 28 games this year wins this easily.

Yea, I was ok with that look, that late. He got a really clean look with a shot he can hit. He had been off but he did hit his step back early in the half.

Disagree. Statistical randomness does not explain this performance. Psychology does. This team looked tight before tipoff, you could see it in their eyes. Lack of confidence explains this loss, not statistics.

Time for a mental palate cleanser before bed. See you all later in the post-mortem pod thread.

I’m still salty they didn’t review the hook and hold

All you have to do is look at Dylan’s shot chart. Michigan got so many shots near the rim, and missed way too many of them. Heck, they missed half their free throws — and Austin Davis made his. Sometimes stuff happens, and there’s not a reason for it. It’s not very satisfying, but it’s life.

the type of game it was.

Why would they be lacking confidence? Why can’t they just play and without there being some kind of psychological reason?

Man, 10 years ago a game like this would’ve absolutely ruined me for like a week. Like, just totally ruined me in a way that makes today me want to give 10 years ago me a hug. Thankfully now I have a wife and a baby on the way, so while I’m super bummed, the realization that there are so many more important things going on has allowed me to move past games like this. To those who don’t have something like that to fall back on, I feel for you and honestly, if you’re really upset, be really upset. It’s okay. Don’t let anyone shame you for feeling that way. But try and keep your head up and be proud of what this team accomplished instead of agonizing over what it didn’t.

I’ll probably peace on the post game stuff for a few days but I’ll be back to yammer on about transfers, NBA draft decisions, and all that.

Go Blue!

Yes. Winning your conference always matters. It doesn’t only count if its the best conference

Hahaha. Franz is gone as he should be. Nothing to gain in Ann Arbor for another year.

I think they were talking about Elis backwords layup attempts.

I mean, it’s not like UCLA played any better. Did they lack confidence too?

If Franz had hit his last shot, would they suddenly have been confident the whole time?

nvm this sounded a little weird

Coming back to win a title seems a little short sighted. There’s like a 5% chance your team wins at the start of the season

I love this site and this board is normally the best around but Jesus it gets fairweather sometimes. People complaining about Mike Smith and Franz Wagner? Is that serious? Mike smith was a godsend for this program this year. Without him I can’t even imagine what this team would’ve looked like for 4 months. Franz? Well he played himself into a lottery pick throughout the year. Hope this board doesn’t turn into one of those boards where clowns are just spewing nonsense after a loss every game

Yes. Single elimination tournaments are incredibly volatile. 16-20 game conference schedules? Not as much

Disappointing ending of the season but it’s still a successful season. Michigan went above preseason expectations and got the #1 seed with B1G Title and a trip to the Elite 8. We will miss the seniors who made a big contribution to the program. Thank you Mike Smith, Chaundee Brown, Isaiah Livers, Austin Davis and Eli Brooks for a great year. Also thank you to the senior bench (Jaron Faulds, Luke Wilson, CJ Baird, Rico Ozuna-Harrison) for their contribution to the program!

Looking ahead to next season will be a completely different roster with a #1 recruiting class coming in. I’m interested to see who’s going to emerge as the man for the team. If Dickinson is back which he should IMO, he’s their #1 option. Dickinson needs to go to Sanderson camp and also study Austin Davis and any other post players tape for post moves/counters because he basically have one move.

Mike Smith’s shot late looked good. Just didn’t fall, would rather him take the final shot than Franz, who was just off the entire night.

Shoutout to Austin Davis. I know i’ve cursed him over the years, but he showed up tonight, and this entire tournament in his role. Cant wait for November, when maybe life and basketball as we know it can go back to normal.
