NCAA 2021: Michigan vs. UCLA Open Thread

Did I just see someone say Franz hasn’t made that shot in practice?

I was hoping they’d run a play Chaundee or feed Hunter one last time. They played under on Franz which was smart but I was really hoping Franz would just still get in the lane and ignore it but he did just hit two free throws so… I guess if hes firing I want it right after he just hit some free throws to find his stroke.

haha suck it Illinois

I just don’t see what Wagner is going to do real well in the NBA. Yes he was terrific defensively in college but is he going to be able to do that with the best basketball players in the world? He will have a tough time getting his own shot unless coaches dial it up for him. This isn’t based on this one game either. I question whether he can hit the NBA 3 at a high level as well. One more year for a guy who’s still young would bode well for him.

all the point blank layup misses. it was like the last Abdur Rahkman layup miss against Houston in 2018, except on repeat the last 5 minutes. i kept hoping it was a good omen until the moment franz’s shot bounced off the rim

Look at Franz. Everything he shots tonight was off. Nearly airballing the first 3, couldn’t even hit the shots on drives that he’s been hitting this tournament. And those shots weren’t even close. Whether the moment was too big for him or the space at LOS made shooting difficult or he was just plain off, from my couch he just did not look at all like the guy you can feel confident taking that shot.

I don’t like Mike Smith driving the length of the court to shoot a 3 even when he’s shooting well. Especially don’t like it when he’s shooting poorly. I know we all wanted the win but those shots didn’t have to be 3 pointers…

Time to start watching the transfer portal for Michigan Players

You know that’s not what I mean, don’t be so condescending. I mean he might want to finish business at the college level, it happens. It has happened by better players than him.

I’m not sure Juwan specifically called for those shots. They just came open as the plays unfolded. I thought Smith’s shot was in - it looked good coming coming off his hand. Just tough.

Just saw the replay - Smith did not have an open path to the basket at all. Wide open three to win from a 42% three point shooter is the right move there

Yeah. A certain type of Sparty fan will be driven into an existential crisis because of this game.

Defense, passing, has a projectable shot. Lot to like. And he can improve more if he’s in the nba

We had plenty of chances to win. Let’s just realize sometimes the ball doesn’t go in.

The last few plays were drawn up and there for the taking. The future is bright and our coach had drawn up open shots just it didn’t go down.

Amazing year considering what we expected.

Like win a national championship??

I saw the same shots you saw. I saw guys attempting plays they never attempt. I saw turnovers that made no sense. Missed free throws we just don’t miss. Hard for me not to see a mental component to it.

I think his flaws would be best served as a pro than a college player. Needs consistency and he’s more likely to do that when he can focus on basketball as a job.

Thank you. I feel irrationally better now. I wasn’t even going to look.

Illinois was close enough that I was certain missing the spread by this much would have been disastrous.

Now we just need Gonzaga to only beat UCLA by about the KenPom number. :crossed_fingers:

The Calvary is coming to Michigan though. I know people like Quinn said this could be juwans best team but I don’t buy that for a second. Going forward juwan is going have lsu like perimeter guys except they will play in an offense and play defense.
