NCAA 2021: Michigan vs. UCLA Open Thread

64-59 Michigan wins

I said mentally over not literally over

Couldn’t figure out why Juwan didn’t try a few shifts of Franz on Juzang. Now Franz has 2 fouls and Juzang has all the confidence in the world,

I know that don’t respect Campbell’s shooting, but Smith was helping Franz on D. Let me repeat: Smith for some reason was helping Frank on D.

I would say they played better defense than UCLA that half. Michigan’s struggles are largely because they turned the ball over on 30% of possessions and they have only hit 1 shot all game. Some of that can be attributed to the defense but you watched the field half, it looked a lot like Michigan hurting themselves.

Why not? That’s right in line with the shots they’re taking. Most of UCLA’s shots have been contested midrange jumpers — that’s why nobody but Juzang can score. And, heck, he’s got two threes that were open and six twos that weren’t.

Losing, I can handle. Losing playing this tight and this far below our ability would be hard to deal with. The team needs to laugh off that half and replace the imposters who wore the uniforms in the first half.

Verne Harris on both calls BTW. Sorry, but he’s having a bad game on post play.

I mean he had a basket off a cut, scored on a hi low and then beat a guy pressing on him. They weren’t exactly drawing stuff up for him either

UCLA switching so aggressively means that guards have to make plays one-on-one, or get the ball into the post.

Brooks and Smith are 1-of-9 from the floor in 40 total minutes.

1v1 playmaking has been a weakness for UM’s perimeter players all year.

Agreed, it was really really bad but I’m ok. They are hitting tough shots and maybe they stay hot but we should score much more in the second half if we just calm down. I expect them to start to miss some of those…

They didnt’ do antying overly impressive on d, it was just sloppy sloppy decision making and timid shooting.

That felt like the first half against Loyola in 2018 when we were down 29-22. I think we’ll respond the way that Michigan team did.

That doesn’t make it any less stupid a thing to say. We are missing open shots and UCLA is making contested ones. Our defense looks better than theirs does.

That’s where I’m at. Losing but playing a good game is one thing, but this is just something else. It’s pathetic

That was pretty clearly a strategy to help off Campbell against ISOs…

The issue is when you help off of Juzang (like Chaundee did).

Not to put you on the spot, but what’s your move here?

They had plays in the post or on cuts to open guys and just blew them. It can be done…

They need to come out dialed in and stop playing around

Moe Wagner ain’t walking through that door. Franz though…

Let’s hope they come out like they did the 2nd half against Wisconsin

As least Johns has brought it tonight. Without his contributions we’d be in serious trouble.
