Free throws for the rest of the game. Way to go, girls!!
What the !@##$%~ are the Miami coaches wearing? Breakin’ 2 Electric Boogaloo wardrobe raid?
It’s Miami! Anything goes
Impressed with Michigan’s ball movement.
Dwyer on Miami reminds me of Pat Bev.
I think Emily Kiser has taken at least 4 charges.
Tbis game has been good, but our two PG’s combining for 8 turnovers (I realize they’ve pressed the whole game) is disheartening, given our traditional struggle with turnovers.
Teams combined for 47 turnovers. Yikes.
Michigan State likes what they’re seeing…
They salted the game pretty well on the road. It wasn’t a work of art, but there wasn’t a great deal of stress once the lead hit double digits.
Good win tonight! 8-0! Also, holy cow IU is for real. They beat #6 UNC by 20+
Looks like Varejao and Sollum didn’t travel.
Very good win tonight. Liked their team defense rotation a lot. Kiser really hedges well on screens.
Also, I owe @mgl an apology for being so wrong about Leigha Brown. I thought early on that Greta might overtake Leigha Brown’s starting spot, but Leigha clearly was just not back to 100% yet at that point. She is ballin’ right now.
I continue to be impressed with Alyssa Crocket. I think she has great court vision, is a good passer, and shows excellent poise for such a young player. You just don’t see silly mistakes from her even this early on.
Yeah won’t complain. Super efficient nights from Brown and Kiser when Phelia didn’t really have it.
Really liked what I saw from Crockett briefly as a future piece.
Maddie’s buzzer beater was hysterical.
Kampschroeder is like a grab bag filled with delicious sweets and mousetraps and you don’t know which you’re going to snag.
I think that description of Kampschroeder is dead-on. Feels like her range if outcomes in any given game is vast.
But the upside is definitely there. She is always locked-in and active when she’s on the floor. No lack of effort, that’s for sure.
I am also pretty surprised how quickly Crockett has become a standard rotation player even on nights when KBA keeps it tight. She’s often playing ahead of Elise Stuck when Stuck got plenty of run last year. Pretty clear she has KBA’s trust.
Lol no apology required, I was confused too!
Greta is variable play to play!
And yeah, Crockett playing the role she is already is really encouraging
Also our conference is going to be sick this year. OSU, Iowa, Indiana, and Maryland are really high level.
Does Michigan lack size? Both teams turned it over a bundle. Miami out rebounds them 2 to 1, kills them on the offensive boards. Is this going to be an issue or 1 game thing?
I feel like typically they have been a pretty good rebounding team, but some of that is dependent on how much Cameron Williams is on the floor. If Emily Kiser is the only big on the floor then rebounding will drop off a bit.
As for turnovers, that has unfortunately been a consistent bugaboo for KBA teams. I don’t know that I see that changing a whole lot. There are a couple players who are good for 1-2 traveling calls per game* and they tend to turn the ball over on bad passes several times per game. There has been a bit of a dropoff in those occurrences as many times over the last couple years they would turn the ball over when trying to force an entry pass to Naz, but I’ve seen enough this year to believe that they’re still going to be good for turnovers where opposing players jump passing lanes several times per game.
I just think at this point that’s baked into the program. I was hoping they might turn the page on that issue this year, but there will definitely be a handful of nights this year with 20+ turnovers.
*I’m not convinced that all of the travel calls on Laila Phelia are always legit, but she gets called for it consistently when she fakes one way and dribbles the other. I don’t believe she actually picks up the foot on the side she’s jabbing to first, but they call it on her at least once per game. Ironically, I think she should get called for a travel regularly when she gathers on catch-and-shoot from 3 because she almost always takes a small hop. She rarely gets called for it, though.
I was counting heads during their final timeout and only got 12. I didn’t see Michelle Sidor, either, who has also been injured. It will be interesting to see if Chyra Evans gets in at all in late minutes against any remaining non-con blowout games. Given that both Varejao and Sollom haven’t been available, if she doesn’t get in soon it’s safe to say she’s a redshirt all the way this year.
