This was really really good stuff. I too think the mens team had something like this to get the fans fired up.
These were really enjoyable. I’d play for KBA in a heartbeat.
Women’s team are on BTN+. Not really good coverage by BTN. I missed the first 3/4 of the 1st Qtr because there seemed to be no feed. It finally came on by no graphic of time or score. Announcers aren’t bad, though, really.
Girls are playing great! Lot’s of depth. Caveats apply, though as they’re playing some school named Daemen. D is very solid and aggressive. They move the ball well and have lots of offensive firepower. 45-18 at the half. Michigan 47% on twos and 50% on threes. Dominated the boards and forced 14 turnovers.
Big question is, how will they play and how good will they be without Naz. Obviously, Cam isn’t Naz, no one is, but wow, the girl is good. Lots of good moves and footwork down low and she’s generally surrounded by four shooters. I think this is gonna be fun…again!
I think they are a top 15 team again by years end.
We know what we will get from Brown, Kiser, and Nolan
Williams has a ton of talent and is getting an opportunity.
Phelia looks poised to take the next step, Wiggins is going to get a shot to play healthy
Add in Campschroeder and we have a bunch of players who we don’t need to just come out of nowhere
This is the most boring university seal in America
I LOVE IT! I’m a globalist, number one, but just as important to me, I love the year they were “born!”
Totally agree about the year they started 1947!
Anyone know what’s up with Leigha Brown?
Phelia is balling out
They just said on the radio that she’s out tonight due to an internal issue. They said she’s on the bench.
He also said that Michelle Sidor is out with an ankle injury.
I just didn’t want to start the whole “Brown is hurt again” thing already
It looks like everyone who’s able to play has played, except Varejao. I’m not sure if she’s injured as well.
Rough 2nd half for Delaware. They scored the first bucket of the 2nd half and then went 12 1/2 minutes without scoring again. Michigan up 70-23.
83-30 final.
Did Delaware State coach bench the starters early? Two of them only played 10 minutes and one played 15 and only one starter scored (3 points). I think there were 5 bench players that played over 20 minutes. Weird box score.
I didn’t get to see last night’s game yet, but she has been in street clothes thus far so I imagine that she is working through something. I feel like I even read somewhere that both she and Whitney Sollom are both currently injured (severity unknown) but I cannot for the life of me remember where I heard that now.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how well Alyssa Crockett has played as a true freshman thus far.
The 32 threes were a huge change from last year. We took 15 a game last year, and Nolan was tops on the team at 5 a game. Rauch was 2nd at a little under 2 a game.
Last night, Nolan and Kampschroder took 8 apiece (Maddie was 1/8, she’ll do better we know), Hobbs took 7 (DNP last year mostly), and Phelia 6 of her 11 shots from 3 (a pretty big change in shot mix).
Kampschroeder took 86 3’s all season last year, so this was definitely a big step up in volume, and Hobbs is a mystery, but if they’re going to keep shooting and Phelia is changing her mix this much, it’s a very different offense if this keeps up.
I forgot about Whitney- oops!
So what’s the rotation? Does Izzy get in when she’s able to go (we didn’t really play a big off the bench, assume we just staggered Kiser and Williams). Crockett and Hobbs are pretty tall, maybe they can play the 4?
Who sits when Brown is back…Clark?
Elise Stuck has been able to slide to the 4 in the past, and we know Emily Kiser is able to slide to the 5. My best guess is that
- Cameron Williams will play 25 minutes per game,
- Kiser will play 30+ minutes per game mostly at the 4 but spotting time at the 5 as well,
- Varejao will play backup at the 5 for 7-10 minutes per game, and
- Stuck will play a few spare minutes at the 4 when necessary.
Add it all up and there are probably only 10ish minutes left to go around at the 4 and 5 spots. I think it’s more likely that one of those four picks up extra minutes or Michigan goes small more often than it is that another post on the bench picks up significant minutes.
One thing that you mentioned that could be an interesting experiment is to see if you can steal minutes with Jordan Hobbs at the four. Given that they look to be a more perimeter-oriented team this year, that Hobbs has shown a willingness to shoot, and that she’s 6’3", it would be interesting to see how well she can rebound and guard the 4 spot. If she can hold her own there, you might see her sliding down to that spot a la Elise Stuck to eat up the remainder of those minutes in a shooting lineup where 2-4 are a bit more interchangeable.
Alyssa Crockett has looked good so far so I do imagine she’ll get in the neighborhood of 3-5 mpg in the 3/4 spot, but I don’t know that she has the strength yet to last more than a spot minute here or there at the 4. I have no insight here, but I’m not sure I expect Clarke to play more than a handful of minutes per game this season, especially once they hit conference play.
Again, I’m just guessing on all of it, but that’s my flimsy prediction.
And yes, that was my first thought about this past game. KBA mentioned that they’re going to be a more perimeter-oriented team, and that is clearly the case. The sheer number of attempts from Nolan (11 attempts)/Kampschroeder (13 attempts)/Phelia (8 attempts)/Hobbs (11 attempts) so far shows that they’re all in on bombing away. That’s 43 attempts in two games between your top shooters.
You have to shoot better than low 30% if you really want that to work out since you don’t yet have an established monster on the offensive glass this year, but it’s pretty rare to see a 1/8 night game from Maddie.
