It’s always cool when you don’t play your best game but still win in the teens.
M women rolling again against OSU up 51-27 mid 3Q
Up now 74-43 w/4 min to go.
KBA takeover and I’m here for it!!
There was a stretch where I didn’t think she’d get over the hump. Had a few late season collapses that knocked us off the bubble. I was ready to move on if we missed the tourney in 2017-18 when we started out 8-2 in conference play and then went on to lose 4 of 5 heading into the regular season finale. Beat a ranked Maryland team at home to secure a bid.
Since then, there’s been improvement every year. Now we are contending for the conference title. Second place at 9-1 but Indiana is only 6-0 and we get them at home this weekend. After a trip to Illinois we get Iowa at home. Beat Indiana and we control our own destiny for the regular season title
They’re really just smacking teams around right now.
Pretty dominate performance on the road against a ranked team.
The most dominated performance in the Midwest
I work in an elementary and this morning I overheard a 4th grade boy talk about how badly Michigan beat OSU last night. When the 4th grade boys are talking about your team, you know you’ve finally made it.
Huge game on Monday night~ get out there if you can!
Maybe wear one of these?

Absolutely! I’m glad to hear you are doing the important work you do at your elementary school. Fourth and fifth grade were certainly two of my favorite grades to teach among all of my experiences with kids. I taught grades three through eight and have now substituted in every grade from Kdg through 12th, and I’ve coached middle school, high school and college kids over my 46 years in education. My favorites are fifth grade teaching and eighth grade basketball coaching. Thanks for what you do. And you’re right, if fourth grade boys are talkin’ about the dominance of a women’s basketball team, that women’s program has reached a very special place.
One of the things I love about today’s world is that women, rightfully, are being recognized for their accomplishments…by little girls and by little boys. I’m impressed that some of the guys on umhoops are recognizing how special these terrific young ladies are and are expressing appreciation for their efforts. Not the world I grew up in, sadly, but one of the truly good things about the world of today… It’s part of what gives me hope for the future!
Let me guess that teaching 7th graders was the most difficult.
Michigan has probably their biggest home game in the history of the program tonight on ESPN2. 5 Indiana vs 6 Michigan. A win and Michigan controls their own destiny for the conference title.
Hoosiers have had three games postponed due to covid, so they’re only 6-0 in conference play. Looking at common opponents, they also put a beat down on OSU in Columbus. They beat Maryland in OT in Bloomington, whereas Michigan beat them by double digits on the road. Took OT for Indiana to dispatch of Purdue, while Michigan beat them by double digits at Crisler. Both teams beat Wisconsin comfortably. But Indiana beat Nebraska at home and Michigan lost to them in Lincoln.
I’m the “Behavior Specialist” and work with K-6 at our district. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m exhausted at the end of everyday but the summers and holidays off, plus a snow day here and there makes up for it. My mom has been a 4th grade teacher forever (trying to convince her to retire after this year) so I’ve been around the education world since birth. Tough times right now but they keep on truckin.
I’ve coached boys and girls and I’ll say that my current third grade girls team is the best team I’ve ever coached in terms of effort and a desire to learn. We’re a small district and the junior high teams down to the elementary teams share the same gym, so we only get one hour and a half practice every week. Haven’t won a game so far this year, but they’re trying and putting forth the required effort! I get lots of thanks for coaching girls, like it’s the toughest job in the world, but it’s been the best part of my school year so far.
I coach 5th/6th grade girls. Kind of jealous of some friends who don’t have to spend time every practice on … catch the ball w/ two hands – Pivot until you can see the rim — then you may dribble…
But the girls are so sweet and they mostly try and when they don’t, I only imagine positives like they are thinking about rainbows and unicorns. Probably it’s tiktok but I like living in my bubble, thank you.
This is a message to both @bacon141 and @dirk. I probably could have sent it privately and I considered doing so, but I want to let you both know how much I appreciate and honor what you do in coaching our youngest kids, and I want to do that publicly. Thank you both for what you do.
I hope it comes through in most of my posts, except, of course when I’m jumping on Izzo’s case and speaking (writing) in ways I don’t normally speak in public , that I truly believe sports is about so much more than wins and losses. I believe there is so much to learn from both, winning AND losing, the value of teamwork, the importance of preparation, striving to be your best, giving your greatest effort, rising up in the face of adversity, and the sun will always rise tomorrow no matter how bad it gets. I know you are both stressing fundamentals as the building blocks of greatness and of everything that is important in sports and in life, including the importance of academics and good citizenship, which are really all just as important, and even more so for most of your players than their ability as an athlete. I am sure you, and all good coaches teach all of those things.
Working with our youngest kids is such a privilege and a special opportunity to make a difference in the lives of kids, BUT it’s not always as respected as coaching at the high school or college level. Let me say to both of you, as a guy who has coached at many levels, with my own kids at the 5/6 grade level, interscholastically at the seventh and eighth grade levels, and as one who has coached at both the high school and college level (full disclosure, DIII assistant coach), what you guys do is so incredibly important. So, again, thank you! Keep up the great work!
Now, because this the women’s basketball thread let me say, our ladies have a HUGE game tonight! I almost bought a ticket and drove down to the game (13 bucks for lower bowl, center court!), but, alas I couldn’t get away. Let me just say, and I hope they can hear me in Ann Arbor, GO BLUE!
Don’t worry about length of your essays here. I for one read them all beginning to end. Now how long I retain content is another issue that has nothing to do with yourself if you know what I mean. I too shout out to the M ladies GO BLUE and keep the 3s raining Maddie Nolan!
First four offensive possessions:
- Naz beats double team for easy layup
- Naz beats double team and finds the open teammate under the basket for the easy layup
- Brown beats her woman off the dribble for a little jumper in the lane
- Brown nails a 3
9-0 to start the game. Don’t think you could script it any better
Our first game, I don’t think we got a rebound unless it bounced right to us. Next practice was just focusing on rebounding and alot of competitive drills to show them aggression is ok. Did great rebounding next game but other things popped up. It’s like whack a mole each game with what we need to work on, but each thing we focus on they do better the next game, so I can’t complain too much.
I’ve found that the girls with older brothers or sisters in sports tend to do better, which is not too surprising
