All ex nba guys as the coaches. Thats interesting.
As long as the O2 doesn’t have the Thames flowing through it, game conditions should be more favorable than in Atlantis, anyway.
Good stuff here from Brendan. Michigan gets $500k to play in London.
Game is December 5th.

(Feb. 21, 2020) – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the field of teams for the first-ever Basketball Hall of Fame London Showcase, a newly developed college basketball double-header held in conjunction with The O2 arena on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Quotes from Participating Head Coaches
“This series with Michigan checks off a lot of boxes when we’re looking at teams to schedule. The first thing is, to add an opponent like Michigan and to do so at a point in the schedule where we’re beginning to find out who we are as a team will be important in our development. And then to be able to do something different – to be first, which our fans know we love to do – and play this first game in London will be an unforgettable experience for our players and for our fans. I know our fans will show up in full force. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame always puts on a first-class event and I expect this will be the same.” - John Calipari, Kentucky coach and Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2015 Hall of Famer
“What a tremendous opportunity for Michigan, Kentucky and college basketball itself. Not only are we starting a three-game series with one of the premier college programs in the country, we will be able to create that “once-in-a-lifetime” experience for our young men and our fans. We cannot thank the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame enough for this opportunity. This is going to be truly special.” - Juwan Howard, Michigan
“We look forward to representing Marist and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in London next season. It’s an opportunity to face a quality opponent as part of a historic event, and it will be a terrific cultural experience for our program. Our trip to Belfast in 2018 was a memorable one, and we’d like to thank the Basketball Hall of Fame for working with us on another international trip.” - John Dunne, Marist
“We are absolutely thrilled to have been asked to be a part of this event in London. It’s an amazing opportunity to bring Daniel (Akin) and R.J. (Eytle-Rock) back home to play in front of their families and friends. It will be a tremendous educational opportunity and cultural experience for our student athletes.” - Ryan Odom, UMBC

Random: but the scheduling of the Kentucky game next year was different than what we all anticipated. Dec 5th date means that we are probably going to be through a tough stretch from late November to mid December
The tournament we are in is the weekend before thanksgiving, so that might give a little break in the action. Will have a home game (presumably) and Kentucky in the same week, and probably Oregon away the weekend after. I think it’s a fair assumption that we won’t be in the Gavitt games next year.
Quinn had reported Dec. 5th, turns out it is Dec. 6th. Should be a home Big Ten/ACC Challenge game and then fly to London for a few days I would guess. There’s also a week off as @DeAngeloVickers points out during Thanksgiving, probably have a buy game or two over the holiday.
That all leaves a trip to Oregon the weekend after London I would assume.
When do the December B1G games fall into place?
That’s a good question, I suspect they’ll have to be moved around a bit… MSU’s games were … adjusted … from when the rest of the league played this year.
Not sure if they will squeeze one in before heading to London. Definitely will be one the week after I would say.
It’s cool to travel overseas but I don’t quite understand the logic of doing it then, why December?
What are the other options? The only other thing that could make sense is maybe over Christmas.
It just seems like a lot of unnecessary travel to play a team that we could have faced here in the U.S., and I’m guessing the team won’t have too much time to see London since they need to get back soon, with the semester winding down.
Yeah, up for debate whether playing in London is a good or bad idea but I’m just not sure when else you could really play the game if you are going to play it.
I think it is a good move overall… Good to play Kentucky, good to build the brand of the program that Juwan wants, etc.
It’s a bit closer than flying to Maui
But when you go to Maui, you’re there for like 5 days, you’re not flying twice in 48 hours or whatever. I feel like this is a lot of travel for a single game. I think if you’re going to go someplace far away, you should have enough time to enjoy being there.
Maui also is around Thanksgiving and not this close to the end of the semester.
Hopefully Josh Christopher goes off on a big stage against what was once his dream school.
Dylan, are you making the trip across the pond in December?!
Hopefully, haven’t got that far yet in the planning but would think so.
Just got my tickets a few min ago! Can’t wait. I think a UMHoops gathering at a pub is a must.
