Yeah, too soon to judge. Houstan is clinging to the deep bench option at wing right now, but he has a head start on Jett. I think Jett can do more good things on a basketball court than Caleb in general, but Caleb in his second year does fewer bad things on the court. He may only be a mediocre 3pt shooter that doesn’t do anything else on offense, but he at least tries to defend and knows the system. I think guys like Jett, Kobe, etc. need that adjustment year in the G-League where possible.
Long term I think Jett’s ability to be an actual plus shooter and handle the ball some will move him ahead, but he has to learn the system and play some defense first.
As mentioned above, Caleb starting to make a little case for a permanent role in Orlando. For a team that needs shooting he can hopefully hold onto some minutes even when Gary Harris, Ingles, and Isaac get healthy.
Sort of strange relatedly that Jett is just a non-factor on the big league club when minutes are going to Trevelin Queen right now with all their injuries.
Caleb can execute defensive assignment. I know nothing about Trevelin Queen, but I’m guessing maybe he can.
I would also note that it’s an indication that they are less concerned about Queen forgoing actual on-court minutes in the G-League and withering away on the bench in minor roles than Howard.
If Harris keeps struggling with his shot, I can see Caleb eating some of those minutes. Ingles has been shooting well and just brings some offensive dimension Caleb never will (on ball creation), so I think he remains outside of the conversation.
