Sadly, I wasn’t the first to label his game this way.
THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL
The trailing angle I saw on twitter this morning was also spectacular. I really hope Diabate figures out how best to use his bag, because there’s some neat stuff in there.
This is the type of play I had hoped to see while he was at Michigan and unfortunately it happened too rarely. Hopefully he can find a home in the NBA - I’m certainly rooting for the kid! A few more highlights like that and he might stick this year.
I think this highlights his unique athleticism in that he can run and leap from that running start as well as anyone. His stand-still jump was underwhelming last year and limited his impact around the hoop on both ends of the court. If he can get into a system where they like to get up and down the floor he could be really exciting. If he can also continue to develop in an NBA conditioning program year round he might be able to maximize his vertical leap and quick-twitch ability too.
Moussa’s path to nba time is I think ultimately as a Precious Achiuwa like switching 4.
For the “Poole is not coachable” crowd:
“Well, I will let Jordan speak for himself when he speaks to you guys, which I think will be soon, but what I will say (about) my observation of Jordan is that he’s an incredibly mature young guy,” Kerr said when I asked him about Poole’s part in the healing process. “I think we’ve seen that on the basketball side with his work ethic, and his ability to work through his rough rookie season, and going to the G League bubble and do everything to get where he is now. It takes a lot more than just talent.
“So this is a pretty special young guy. And it was already reported after the incident (that) he worked out for another hour on his shot (that day in practice). He came out … a couple of nights later and scored 15 straight points at one point (and 25 points in all during a preseason game against the Lakers. He’s, he’s — he’s cool. Not much fazes him. And I think that’s part of why we’re going the way we’re going because we know that he’s fine, we know that he’s willing to move forward, he’s willing to basically get back on the floor with Draymond and go to work.”
More reactions from the Moussa dunk.
It’s probably been since the Blake Griffin days since that kind of dunk has been seen in a Clippers uniform.
It is good to hear those comments about Poole. He frustrated me a lot during his time at Michigan and when he left - and I would argue he wasn’t that mature young guy at that time. Just like very few of us were as college teenagers. Poole’s path to the league via playing poorly on a bad team and then having to fight his way through the G-League to make it is to be commended and should motivate everyone (not unlike Duncan’s story too). That will humble and strengthen even the most confident people and I’m thrilled that Jordan made it out the other side.
I’m also glad that Poole was able to move past the incident and stay focused. Thankfully the sucker punch didn’t break his orbital bone or injure him in a way that would have made him lose time on the court. It is great that they are working past it - let’s not let his maturity overshadow what Draymond did and how close this was to something much worse.
What did he do that makes you think he wasn’t mature at U of M? I often hear comments like this and I don’t really get it. He didn’t play as well as he could have as a Sophomore. Does that make him immature?
I’m not saying my opinion is necessarily 100% accurate - I’m just a random fan who probably is irrational at times. But to attempt to explain it I would say that he often made poor decisions on the court, he was often more selfish with his play than Beilein wanted out of his system, he and his family complained about lack of usage or ball screens, and his lack of effort on defense caused a lot of problems at times. Part of the frustrations in these situations is that you can see Poole’s potential (or Houstan/Diabate) and when they don’t meet those it can be frustrating - especially when the team is up and down.
I think John Beilein would vehemently disagree with everything you said. But it’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it
As an aside, not that anyone knew what was coming, but I also like to remind myself that if Poole had returned for his Junior year, Michigan would have without a doubt been a top 5 team and then the tournament cancellation would have been so much more painful. Ask MSU fans how it feels to feel like you’re gonna win it all and have the tourney not happen.
I’m also positive that Poole never complained about his usage or role ever.
I’m as big a fan of Beilein as anybody
But seeing his ability to be a premium iso scorer in the NBA
I think it’s fair to at least ask where the responsibility for him “not meeting his potential” lies (it’s probably a bit of both)
Safe to say the Warriors helped him become something (as did he via hard work) few saw coming.
He was really good offensively as a sophomore. I’m not sure that he didn’t meet his potential to be honest and the roster was what it was given that Zavier and Charles can’t really shoot.
College offense (well, more importantly defense) is just so different than the NBA.
It’s really weird to me how many MSU fans are so sure they would’ve won it that year.
I’m guessing there are multiple fanbases that feel the same way but I can understand the sentiment from MSU fans. Winston was the best player of the Izzo era IMO and that was his swan song.
