It is a small black mark against C Webb (who I worshipped when he was at Michigan, to be clear) that this is the first time he met Beilein. I know for a fact that he was invited on multiple occasions, even taking Harbaugh’s invite and never Beilein’s.
Franz is playing. Germany is 8/13 from 3 but only up 2 early in 2Q. Franz has 2 of those 3s as does everyone’s favorite sharpshooting PG, Dennis Schroeder
Giannis has 19 on 7/8 shooting with 4 assists
Franz back to back 3s. Germany on a 15-1 run to start the 2H after Greece had all the momentum. Crowd is rocking. Now another for Germany. 20-1 run. Germany 15/23 from 3
Winner plays Spain in semifinals
Franz dump
Seeing him hit step back threes is a little bittersweet - I can’t help forgetting the end of the UCLA game. But good for him.
Shot motion looks cleaner to me from the chest down. Just rises up, rather than that little pelvis hitch he’d have in college.
Do we know if there are first cousins?
It’s awesome to see (a) two way highlights, and (b) not just making shots but making them over a bonafide All-NBA player. Having Franz break out would be so much fun.
Dennis Schröeder shot well
(I didn’t see the game)
Slovenia is getting whooped by Poland of all teams right now. That leaves Germany as probably the favorite to win the whole thing now. Spain is not what they once were and Germany already beat France
EDIT: Slovenia won the 3Q 24-6 run so forget I said this
EDIT EDIT: Luka kind of imploding here and he fouls out. Poland has taken control of the game back and looks like they will win.
our boy is all grown up
Is Franz the best player left playing in Euros now?
After a pretty chalky group stage, knockouts have been nuts.
FTR i’ve said here and elsewhere in the past that i think the inability to curse here is highly underrated. Forcing people to be creative w their displeasure leads to much better board content.
Oh blow it out your port hole
probably second-best, behind schröder
Why you little
Phenomenal Franz breakdown here. Always satisfying too to hear analysis where a non-Michigan person actually shows a good understanding of Michigan teams/players
Somewhat quiet start for Franz here - he had 6 points early vs. Spain, not much since.
Schöeder has 23 on 10 shots and 5 assists to 1 to.
Germany just spat up a 9 point lead, and trails by 4. Lorenzo Brown is pretty dang good?
Obviously I write that and Franz has a 5-0 run.
Franz flustered with two whistles on two straight plays, but his 5 and a Schröeder three flipped the game - Germany leads by 6 going to the 4th.
Update - 5 mins left, Spain is like Lazarus, takes the lead with 5 left. Franz 2/4 in the 4th, with an Inspector Gadget arm layup and a floater.
Update - two straight zero-pass air balls from Schröeder, then Theis missed his second putback, Germany on the ropes down 6 with a minute
All done - Germany gives up the ghost in the fourth, out scored by 12
Spain/France Sunday. Germany will play Poland for the Bronze.
All that new talent and somehow France and Spain still make it to the finals
