Michigan Players in the NBA

Again, the NBA does not believe that college is the optimal path for development. They will not do anything, at this point, to steer kids to it.

Obviously, people are free to disagree, but the bulk of pro front offices would rather have these guys with their G League staff than Juwan Howard.

I think Eliminating things like countable training hours and Econ 101 matters a bunch.

Here’s a really good breakdown that’s pretty positive about Livers. Isaiah Livers - Detroit Pistons Summer League Breakdown - YouTube

I think the point that is missing in this discussion is uncertainty. After the lottery, basically every player has question marks—and there are way more players coming out of high school that could potentially succeed in the NBA than there are draft picks. A draft and follow model would only make sense if you also expanded the number of rounds of the draft. Then you either use college as the minors or significantly expand the G League—either of which could make sense depending on how much money teams are willing to throw into it.

@eric_shap, the use of graphics and slow-mo here made this particularly easy to digest. Well done.

Hopefully an Exhibit 10 contract.

How about some Tuesday Trivia? I don’t want to do my actual work so I was reading up on some NBA statistics! By my (highly unofficial) count, there are 18 Wolverines who have appeared in the NBA who played in the Beilein/Juwan era. Of those 18, 7 have scored at least 30 points in an NBA game, and 7 more have scored at least 20. Can you properly group them based on career highs? And BONUS- who is the one Wolverine who has appeared in the NBA but has not scored a point?

Quite impressive! Nailed the 30 group and 0 point man. 6/7 on the 20 point group, only Walton is incorrect with a career high of 11. The 7th in that group is none other than Mitch McGary.

Always forget that McGary was extremely productive for like ten to fifteen games when he first showed up in the NBA

If you want a way to spend the final 14 minutes of your day, watch the ā€œTop 50 plays for Isaiah Livers at Michiganā€ embedded within that article. 4 years of arousal!

I don’t know that we beat Baylor (or Gonzaga) 2 years ago, but losing Livers before the Tournament was so crushing. We were a really really good squad! I’m glad he ended up a Piston!

I believe Naz has started the last 11 games for the Dream and is averaging 7.7 points and 7.7 rebounds over that span. In 4 of those games, she shot under 50%, and in 6 of those games, she shot 60% or better.

All in all, a pretty encouraging stretch.

Thank you for the continued updates on Naz, @JD1!

Franz and Mo playing for Germany in the Euros (though this was a warm up). They’ve got a good squad. Did pretty well in the Olympics last year and that was without Franz and Schroeder

Actually that tournaments not til September so might be hard for nba players to do that. This might just be qualifying for World Cup?
