Z was 3 of 4 on hook shots last night. Last one was pretty filthy too.
Lol wrong foot sky hook?! Absolute mad man
Alright I love Simpson and am super happy for him, but dude played in a national championship! How do all the mainstream media people have no clue who he is! anyway go Zavier!!
trying to tank + starting Zavier Simpson = stupid
Sam Presti furious rn as he thought he had assembled the most random collection of G-Leaguers. âWHO IS THIS KID, I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU PICKED HIM FROM THE YMCA??â
The Portland lineup was pretty special too. Jaylen Hoard had a 20/20 in this game!
That OKC lineup was disgraceful. Has to be the most blatant tank in the history of basketball. For context, OKC sat out 13 of their top 14 players in minutes played on the season (Isaiah Roby, the lone player, was 11th in minutes on the season). An NBA roster can be 15 players + 2 guys on two-way G League deals.
THIRTEEN OF FOURTEEN. Literally exclusively a bunch of random G League guys. And not only did they play only G League guys. They only played 7 players. Minutes distribution was as such:
Jaylen Hoard - 46 minutes
Zavier Simpson - 44 minutes
Isaiah Roby - 43 minutes
Georgios Kalaitzakis - 43 minutes
Olivier Sarr - 39 minutes
Vit Krejci - 21 minutes
Lindy Waters - 4 minutes
Waters scored 8 points in 4 minutes and then they never brought him back in. They were intentionally trying to tire out a bunch of random G League guys so they couldnât win, and they still won!
Insane. I thought the Magic playing their entire bench lineup for the last 15 minutes of that game against the Kings would be the most blatant tank of the year.
OKC has 0 shame. Magic, Pistons, Rockets, PacersâŚthey all think theyâve embraced the tank, OKC is graduating doctors of tanking from its front office. How many first round picks do they have in their stash right now? 15? Gotta catch 'em all.
BANE voice
âOh you think tanking is your ally. You merely adopted the tank. I was born in it. Molded by it.â
Their issue is that they donât really have one guaranteed to be any good - this year they have the suns (so, last), lottery protected Clippers, and top 16 protected Pistons
So they may or may not get the Clippers, but itâs a middling pick, and they wonât get the Pistons - making their own pick a value is their best chance. Is Giddey/Shea/Dort a conference finalist core?
Giddey is absolutely a really good talent that you can build around, Shea is highly rated. They could always package, like, 4 of their picks to move up the draft.
Of their non-Shai top 5 minutes played, there really isnât anybody whoâs shown they can be better than replacement level. Theyâre all young enough that you would hardly say they wonât get much better but itâs really not obvious that they have anything resembling a core yet. Think itâs reasonably likely they end up trading Shai bc even if they cash in their asset for talented vets, theyâre gonna max out at, like, 7th? in the West? Presti is aiming a lot higher than that, Iâd guess.
When you are sitting down Aaron Wiggins because he is âtoo goodâ, you are taking the tank to the extreme. I hope they figure out some incentive in the next CBA to not take it to this level anymore.
If you guys think the Thunder roster was any worse than Portlandâs, youâre fooling yourselves.
I think OKC put out a worse line-up against the Pistons. Or, they at least played like it.
The only way to avoid tanking is to reward the non-playoff team with the better record by a chance of an extra draft pick.
I hope Simpson takes this opportunity to dominate and ruin their tanking plans - both to show heâs awesome and to help the Pistons. Like in Pulp Fiction when Bruce Willis decided to go ahead and win the fight. Simpson sky hooks winning games down the stretch sounds like a lot of fun to me.
Sadly, if Derrick Walton canât get another shot in the NBA with the way heâs torn up the G-League it seems unlikely that Simpson can eitherâŚbut make the most of these minutes young man!
