Michigan Players in the NBA

Caris went for 42 tonight in a losing effort. Ayo had a dagger dunk to seal the win for the Bulls.

I think he’s called Stuff the Magic Dragon?

ā€œBefore they settled on the dragon, the management discounted several ideas, including a wizard, rabbit and a magic bean.ā€

(again, would have loved to be a fly on the wall for those branding discussions)

…

ā€œStuff’s crazy antics are well known. Pre-game, he loves to toss shirts around for his fans to catch. His standard repertoire of trampoline dunks and break dancing doesn’t leave anyone indifferent!ā€

(LOVES it. So hard to be left indifferent in the face of such passion)

…

ā€œOther NBA mascots also love him, and they all come to the Amway Arena to celebrate his birthday. Of course, the party gets rowdy and wild with mascots eager to show their fans what they’re capable of!ā€

(OK willing to admit that mascot three-on-three is a solid halftime. Saw that once at a Sixers game when it was the mascot’s birthday.)

Super pumped my Pacers got nothing in return. A first round pick in the 20s they’ll turn into a player worse than LeVert and a 2nd round pick that will end up on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Woohoo!

tbf you got Ricky Rubio for an oft injured Caris LeVert. But if Caris can stay healthy, Cavs could be a real contender for the title. The two teams I’ve been absolutely astonished by when they’ve played Detroit are Memphis and the Cavs. I tend to make fun of Cleveland for their being completely inept in the draft but I’m really rooting for them this season.

EDIT: And it’s about time you guys started Tanking. I mean dear lord, let’s get some excitement back in Indiana, you guys have been midtable purgatory longer than Detroit was.

We do need to tank. I agree with that.

We don’t really have Rubio. He’s on an expiring contract and injured for the rest of the season. He’ll sign somewhere else in free agency.

Hard work pays off but he is only shooting 33.8% from 3 this season.

All water under the bridge now and just fun to look back, but in retrospect, how did two people as different as Beilein and Poole look at each other and say ā€œyou’re my guyā€?

I got the distinct impression that the two of them didn’t always see eye to eye while he was at Michigan and that his early departure was one of the final reasons that Beilein decided to leave. That space purely on my own perception as a fan and not any hard evidence obviously.

I always thought it was more Iggy leaving early instead of Poole that made Beilein say eff this. Probably the combo of both though.

Who knows. I think it was more obvious that Iggy was going to go based on the season he had, his age, his physical development, etc. The timing aligned more with Poole announcing after a generally mediocre season where it was clear he had more potential to unlock but had yet to reach it. If you recall, the pre-draft rankings suggested Poole was a fringe second round pick and it was a shock when the Warriors drafted him as high as they did. I always felt like losing Poole unexpectedly tipped the scales for Beilein…but what do I know?

Good for him if he gets this contract. He’s definitely improved and has a key role for the Warriors despite his continued erratic outside shooting.

I’d say it was mostly getting offered an NBA job.

Have to take into account the type of shots he attempts. He’s basically a 50-50 split between catch and shoot and off the dribble jumpers so you have to adjust his percentage upward IMO.

Hey…Warriors like him…it’s all good…he worked extremely hard

Yeah, throughout his career the man continued to climb the coaching ladder, from Juco to high Power 5. It was logical that he’d want to give the highest level a shot. As with Harbaugh and the Vikings, his interest in the pros didn’t necessarily mean he was sick of being in college.
