For sure I love them both as well. I just think that I will remember Moe a little fonder. Even back in the year when we made the play-in round and he was kind of emerging as a secret weapon full of energy (and lots of fouling). Fun to see him grow from a relatively unheralded player into a star and leader, going to the S16 his 2nd year and dominating a F4 game the next season.
I donât say these things to undermine what Franz did here, he was awesome and an absolute joy to watch. I just find it an interesting scenario where 2 bothers played for the same high major program at almost the same time, and one will be remembered a little more at the college level and the other will be remembered a lot more in the pros.
Fair. Franz never really had a signature moment or visual. Weâll always remember Mo clowning Nick Ward, and to me at least he owns #13 in a way that Franz could never own #21. Mo was so much fun. I loved how Raftery loved him. The glasses thing with Grant Hill, etc.
Moe (along with Derrick Walton and probably Jordan Poole) was one of the leading players to take some Michigan fans out of the stupid âFire Beileinâ era.
JP wasnât on that team, Duncan was though
I think the the two were actually pretty close to equal as college players - Mo was a really good college player! Just because Franz will almost certainly be a better pro doesnât change that.
I think Poole will be the sixth man and close games. I think Green/Wiggins/Klay/Poole/Curry would be a pretty nasty final 5.
I was speculating that if JP doesnât hit that buzzer-beater in 2018, the Beilein-haters wouldâve come back out of the woodwork.
MaybeâŚat that point he had won the BTT 2 years in a row, went to the S16 and then 2nd round. Though losing to Sparty 3 times the next year would have definitely caused meatballs to meatball
Franz as pick and roll ballhandler just toasted Embiid in drop twice. Change of pace had him shook. Itâs really crazy how good heâs been
hereâs one of them:
That, plus Embiid didnât even try.
Finding a shot creater at 6â9"-6â10" is rare and Franz is doing it really well. A lot of people are shocked at how well he has been as a creator which raises his ceiling as a player. He showed flashes at Michigan, but never really was a primary creator he is at Orlando. Franz is definitely a foundational piece for the organization.
I donât think the vision is for him to be the primary creator - remember this team is t winning at all.
But obviously playing quite well. I think maxed all the way out heâs in the Paul George phenotype.

this has become the Thread of Joy
This thread just reminds me of how silly the notion was that this yearâs team had any chance of being as good (better??) than last yearâs. Franz was probably the best college 2-way player to leave the B1G. Livers and Brown were fringe NBA-level players. Mike Smith played his role perfectly. The team was super old. I get that it was reasonable to expect Hunter to improve, and that the Draft guys thought Devante would be an upgrade, AND that Houstan was billed as uber college-readyâŚbut last yearâs team was historically good and Franz was just such a beast. This year I hold my breath every time the team has to decide whether or not to switch on defense; last year I was legitimately surprised every time the opponent got anything better than a contested long-two up.
Iâll love plays like thisâŚat least until the Pistons sign Bridges this summer.
And while he had limitations defensively, Davis would give you solid backup minutes offensively.
