I’ve long been a Bjelica fan ever since he was drafted. Just has one of those unorthodox games like Boris Diaw.
my feeling is that European players in general have freedom playing the game growing up than their American counterparts.
I really didn’t understand how Miami couldn’t see fit to play him last year. Written-in-stone high volume 40%+ three point shooters (who are nice passers from the 4) don’t grow on trees. I know he can’t play defense, but that Heat team badly needed a shooter at the 4, and Ariza was dying.
Heard someone say he was a bad fit for Miami because he had to be more of a catch and shoot guy and in Golden State the get him the ball on the move where he can make quick decisions.
Lol, it wasn’t Nate Duncan was it? I literally heard that pop out of his mouth on his pod 2 minutes ago, and I kicked myself for posting too early before I could feign knowledge.
No it was either Nekias Duncan/Steve Jones or someone on Sam Vecenie’s podcast.
Franz had a nice opener… 12 pts (6/9 FG), 4 rebs, 2 asts, 2 blocks, 1 steal
It’s so cool as a Michigan fan (and I’m sure even cooler as brothers) to see Franz and Moe almost side by side in both of these highlights. Gotta be a dream come true for those guys to be sharing a court at the highest level.
Iggy even played quite a bit. Though they have a couple injuries
I know it’s a flawed stat, but Iggy’s +/- is ugly… (-30 in 19 mins)
Was just thinking about how funny is is that Moe, Iggy and Franz all played for Michigan between April 4, 2018 and March 30, 2021, a span of just short of 3 years. But tonight is the first time any of them have been teammates with any of the others.
(At least in college/pros, not sure if the Wagner brothers teamed up in Germany at some point)
Yeah, certainly seems like this was Franz’s best performance since he wore a Michigan uniform. Hopefully he keeps it up.
I’m wondering if that’s one of the cleanest blocks I’ve seen in a while or if I’m just fanboying.
Pretty rough night for our NBA alums. Poole was 4-14 for just 9 points, Hardaway had a quiet 14 in a huge blowout loss where Burke barely played, and Duncan was held to single digits. But we did have three starters going all on decent teams so I am sure they will have better nights soon.
It’s amazing how brutal that Mavs team is to watch. Doncic has to be the least appealing superstar to spend 2+ hours with in the NBA, Kristaps is washed harder than a bleached pair of 501 jeans, and Timmy, while definitely a credible starter on good teams, shouldn’t be your secondary offensive option. It’s kind of startling how this team went to the summer with cap room and added nothing other than doubling down on their roster and handing the keys to a certified moron of a coach.
Seems harsh but you’re entitled to your opinion.
I do agree re: Kidd. Think it was one of the worst hires ever. The fact that he took an all time great offense and had them looking like that after 1 game is terrifying.
I just think he’s a major whiner, arguably a worse flopper than Trae (who doesn’t whine at least). If things aren’t going his way, he is one of the most demonstrative complainers I have ever seen. An admittedly great player, but he really brings all the negative aspects of CP3 to the table, and turns up the volume.
Like, if you asked me a year ago, I’d have argued that watching Luka was significantly more fun that watching Trae…last night, head to head, I don’t think there is any question who was more entertaining (setting aside that the Hawks are just way more fun).
And yeah, it’s hard to imagine a sharper coaching downgrade than Rick Carlisle to Jason Kidd.
I like Doncic. He does need to cut down on the whining. But so does Lebron, Trae, CP3, etc.
The team itself is horribly constructed. Doncic has a tendency to over dribble, but when you have the crap that is thrown together for that team, I don’t always blame him. Porzingis and Doncic look awkward every time they play together (I think having Porzingis play with the 2nd team and running offense through him would be a better choice to utilize him - problem is Doncic tends to play significant minutes every game). Hardaway, and to some degree Finney Smith, seem like the only players to actually complement Luka. Now throw in a coach with some questionable offensive gameplanning/playcalling and this could quickly turn into a dumpster fire.
I really don’t think any players proclivity to either flop or whine about calls would make them any less fun to hang out with lol
Doncic actually complained less last night. Apparently its something Kidd said he needed to get better about
