Wilson’s theoretical skillset is still very much coveted by NBA teams, specifically as a backup center. The issue is the theoretical part of it. He’s shown he can be a good defender. Now he needs to show he can be a consistent shooter. If he can do those things well, he’ll have a nice career, even if it’s a 2nd or 3rd center on a mediocre team.
Regarding Poole, he’s one game into the second year of his 4 year guaranteed contract. I think it’s quite a bit early to be sounding the alarm on his NBA career already.
what DJ needs to do is actually shoot the ball. Career 31.9% on 3s and 56.7% on FTs isn’t going to cut it. I am amazed the guy who shot 82% on FTs at Michigan has not been a better FT shooter in the NBA. I mean sure it’s a small sample, but he was money closing out games on the line in 2017 at the end of the year for us.
His size and mobility will give him chances in the league, but until he starts knocking down shots with consistency he will have a hard time being secure in a job.
The 3rd year of a rookie contract is very rarely not picked up. 4th year is more common to not pick up but still likely, considering the Warriors cap situation I would expect them to pick up all 4 years for JP
Both Poole and Wilson will be in the rotations for small numbers of minutes this year - but will be in the rotation. If neither hack it, I imagine both are precarious.
I mean the Warriors are the most expensive team in basketball. If they can find a free talent guy, that’s preferable to paying Poole his third year guarantee.
Not sure what you mean. Poole is only gonna get $2 mill next year. That’s a cheap and young player. For a team that’s over the cap and would only be able to sign players on minimums or exceptions, they will pick up that option. If anything it gives them a tradeable contract/player.
I think they’re paying $4 for ever dollar over the cap in tax. If they can find a leage minimum guy who is similar production it could save them a few million.
Again, I’m speaking of the eventuality where he fails again this year, given he was close to the worst player in the NBA last year.
Hard to know. Poole’s salary is practically a rounding error at this point, but by the end of the season they may see themselves in a purgatory they want to get out of.
That set the Christmas Day record for most 3s in a half. Looks like the record for 3s in a Christmas Day game is only 7 so he has a pretty good shot at hitting that.
Well, Spo did take Duncan out for rest but then Miami went on a run and there was no need to bring him back in. Duncan will have to share the XMas Day record with Ingram…at least until next year.
