Gotta love Charles! That’s great to hear!
I am really happy for Charles Matthew’s. He’s earned the shot.
If the Heat remain competitive and don’t have a let down this upcoming season, I could see Duncan taking a team friendly deal (like a ~15% haircut off market value) due to the team clearly building the offense in a way that benefits him. It can’t be understated how much playing with Bam helps Duncan’s ability to get shots off.
If he leaves and goes to a dumpster fire organization, he runs the risk that his success becomes an aberration and his next contract is that much lower.
He’s gonna be 27 when he hits FA. So this is probably his only chance for a big contract.
Either way, the Heat would be able to re-sign him even if they’re over the cap so I don’t think he’ll need to take a discount to stay.
If you take the $100M contract you’re still in a very good dumpster fire position. The Heat are saving for Giannis, my guess is he’ll be part of that package. I hope not but that’s how the HEAT roll, they need another super star.
Agree - hopefully he cashes in pretty big and finds an organization that puts him in a position to succeed like the Heat have at the same time. Then he can ride out his career getting those short but solid contracts that guys like Korver and Reddick have been getting for years.
Pretty good run for Trey…$25M over ten years which includes his new contract.
Fabulous for normal people, mediocre by NBA standards. Trey Burke will always have a special place in my heart. Tim Hardaway, not so much. But Tim will come close to equaling Trey’s career earnings next year:
Yea, I’m happy that Trey resurrected his career to get that contract this year. The PROBLUE guys will easily push half of a Billion for their careers.
I’m thankful!!
Wonder what Josh Bartelstein is doing?
Wish that Nik can resurrect his career as Trey did.
That’s just great to see, regardless of how it further plays out I’m just super psyched for Nik. I remember he was on Sam Webb’s Michigan basketball podcast last year and he really seemed to want to give the NBA another go.
Also I got this spam call earlier today and immediately it made me think of Nik. Maybe it wasn’t spam at all and Nik was going to let me know early?
Derrick Walton signing!!!
Thankful!!!
Are these deals guaranteed? They’ll make the money no matter what?
No just camp invites essentially I believe
What I read the other day is that the Heat (who have an ongoing conversation with Giannis via the agent he shares with Bam) believe Giannis prioritizes a strong team over the max
In other words their plan is to offer him the approx $25 million they’d be under the cap if they signed him before signing Robinson and extending Herro
Then build around a group of Giannis, Butler, Herro, Bam, Robinson (even if Butler is 75% of what he was this year, that’s a NASTY team with arguably the leagues two best help defenders to cover for Duncan and Herro)
If Giannis signed a 1+1 they’d have his bird rights, and could sign a max the next year.
