Michigan Players in the NBA

Trey Burke tweeted that that was false, fwiw.

Ahh ok. That’s odd then.

I always thought Jamaal got a raw deal from the ncaa eventhough I thought Brian Ellerbe was a lousy HC.

I will. Ellerbe was no worse than Amaker–at least as an in-game coach.
[but I guess that isn’t really that far out on the limb either]

Amaker recruited some good players and could never figure out how to get the most out of them. Ellerbe recruited a wild bunch of misfits that rarely lasted more than a year or two…and also couldn’t figure out how to get the most out of them. Glad that decade is over.

Amaker recruited good players at the beginning of his tenure–not towards the end. Ellerbe’s Blanchard, Crawford, Gaines class was as good as any of Amaker’s. Again, this is not intended to prop up Ellerbe other than in comparison to Amaker.

2020 has been bad enough without bringing up memories of the Ellerbe era.

Great point!

To the suggestion that Ellerbe got the Crawford, Gaines, Blanchard class…to me that cements his problem. Crawford played less than 20 games and Gaines lasted just one year. I remember getting irrationally excited about a lot of Ellerbe’s recruiting (Josh Moore is Shaq!, Dominic Ingersson is a great scorer! Maurice Searight will be a star!)…but they all flamed out except Poor Damn Blanchard.

Amaker had back-to-back Top-40 guys in Sims and Manny, plus Udoh turned out to be a player (moreso for Baylor than us but he was an elite rim-protector), so he was doing decently in recruiting. No great classes after 2003, though.

Don’t forget Avery Queen!

Avery Queen the 5’6" jet according to Ellerbe always seemed to be a trouble maker.

I know what he meant but I did a double take on his wording there…

Hmmm. Can’t just go around saying that MO

But really, an interesting perspective. I wonder if he (and other players) will feel the same in weeks four, five, six…

The importance of commas. Not Moe’s problem he was quoted that way.
