Michigan Non-Revenue Sports 2021-22

My understanding is the real problem is that you pretty much can’t get a real staff to work with you bc of NCAA limitations, but we can prob afford a pretty legit salary for the head guy.

And there’s a reason why Fetter took a while to leave as pitching coach and it’s not bc MLB offers insane salaries to pitching coaches.

I have, like, what rounds up to 1/4 of a source? So I dk maybe I’ll hear something interesting.

The upside of MLB though is still real good money, less responsibility and more down time. College baseball is a 12 month job. MLB is an 8 month job.

I mean if you’re Tony LaRussa sure.

It’s pretty darn close, national brand, best history in conference, elite academic aid(huge deal in baseball with limited schollies), and good facilities. I’d sort of compare it to a suped up VCU/Dayton in CBB. There’s a reason why um was able to steal a coach like Bakich from the acc(top tier baseball conference). Honestly Shaka smart is a really good comparison to Bakich too.

Not surprising imo

She hit .353 for Boston College last year. Only one HR but 4 triples, and 11 SB.

The team, at least right now, lacks a proven power hitter, and pitching is a big question mark.

Here’s some pitching help for U of M:

It will be interesting to see if Lauren Derkowski will be the #1 or if Hannah George gets the call. I’d guess there might be an even split.

And even more pitching help:

She had a losing record at Kent State last year but only a 2.62 ERA.

Also: “Anne” Arbor…

I don’t think Jessica was the one that put out “Anne Arbor”. It was her promoter Blue Streaks.:wink:

Yep. I wasn’t putting that on her.

Solid hire IMO. Took IU to the CWS and had a couple conference regular season and tourney titles.

I liked the idea of Bischel. I know OSU interviewed him as well.

Anybody know why he didn’t work out at ASU?

Probably because he isn’t great at his job.

He had good success at IU and Miami (OH). ASU’s previous two coaches resigned or got fired because of NCAA investigations. So I’m sure that hurt the program in some way, though they are typically a power. The coach before him also had the Sun Devils on a downward trend and also got fired from his previous HC job at Utah. I’m also guessing Smith did not have great connections to local recruiting grounds because he spent his entire playing and coaching career in the Midwest.

I don’t think Smith is an exciting hire but it’s a stable one. He’s succeeded in this area and been to a CWS with another Big Ten team.
