Michigan announces Juwan Howard as new head coach

Just giving Strickland’s twitter feed a peruse and two things stick out: he loves Juwan Howard and he is a big fan of the midrange.

RT’d these two:

My ideal is the same as yours, except I’d keep two current assistants and move the former HC to an advisory position. Of course it would depend on who the former HC is. But if it’s someone newly out of work, he’s probably only going to be around for a year.

Meanwhile Virginia just won a national title and Golden State going to their 5th straight NBA finals. I’m not a fan of just chucking up 3’s just to do it but I don’t think the value of the 3 point shot can be debated. Likewise, the value (or lack thereof) of the midrange game is not very good and the value of layups and ‘easy baskets’ still remains very high.

Yes, I agree with everything you’ve said. I would add that, as Yak was the point man on the recruitment of both Bajema and Wilson, and yesterday we had Nimari Burnett saying that Beilein leaving didn’t affect things that much because “Coach Luke is still there”, keeping him around at least another year is very important, in my opinion, to hold things together. I believe he’ll be a successful head coach at another university sooner than later, but I think Michigan makes more sense in that regard than Texas, considering Shaka Smart has not had much success there as yet. On Howard’s end, I hope he recognizes the value in keeping Luke on staff. We’ll see how it goes.

Just what I’m hearing.

Strickland would be a phenomenal get. Coach the guards, plugged in at high level AAU basketball. He’s Kyrie Irving’s godfather, tons of NBA connections, plus college coaching experience and a Calipari protegé.

Props to Webbdog for suggesting Strickland on Tuesday.

From your grandmother? The mailman? The clerk checking you out at the grocery store?

Why even post that without providing some kind of source?

Last night I was searching around for some former college hc names(beyond jay smith) that could have some ties to juwan, 2 that I found were

Paul hewitt- He’s with the clippers as a scout so Mark Hughes knows him. Mark Hughes clearly has a relationship with juwan.
John Thompson III-Same agent as juwan, worked with Jeff van gundy recently who juwan played for, and the athletic had an article about him wanting to get back into full time coaching.

This is the guy who takes words and rearranges them into different sentences. Might want to read the post again.

The classic argument. Analytics say to only shoot 3s

BTW, in Game 4 Milwaukee took 37 3s and Boston took 41. Boston also shot more FTs.

Obviously the counter strike guy is back at his old tricks.

It’s not that we can discount the overwhelming importance of threes, how they have changed the game. But I kinda like this in an Aristotelian thesis/antithesis way, especially since he seems to be talking late-game situations. I think we all know that with a certain amount of time remaining getting down and getting the easy bucket–if that’s what they’re giving you–getting back and playing lockdown D so that you have one more shot, be it a necessary three or another easy one to put you ahead. . . makes plenty of sense. And you don’t want your twos to become so rusty that no one can make them when they’re handy.

I always thought that if Charles could have MADE a few more of those shots; he certainly got high enough that no one was really contesting.

Believe Strickland has had multiple DUIs and was let go by Kentucky due to something law related so not sure if that fits well.

Also random name I would throw out is Rob Jeter, former head coach of Milwaukee who is currently at Minnesota. No connection that I know of but saw his name recently and believe he is from Chicago.

Man would I love to get Strickland on board as an assistant.

Top 10 recruit in HS from New York and an All American at DePaul.

He was an off the dribble attacking guard who had a sweet mid range game as well.

There is absolutely no doubt that recruiting “star power” would be amped up with him on Juwan’s staff. Do it!

In the internet hall of mirrors, you sometimes end up looking at yourself. . . and you may not be all that cute, JEFF.

Dude tried to make a bet with Yak’s wife that he was right and she was wrong

They’re going to stay just to spite him now
