This time last year Doyle suddenly had a few promising games and everyone was sure he was this year’s stud-in-waiting. I’m still scratching my head over his regression.
Which is exactly why I’m waiting on getting exciting over Donnal.
I need to see consistency.
Fair enough.
Dare him to shoot and sag back when he’s shooting 38% for three for the year? Not sure your coach would keep you in the game if you applied that strategy.
Same as MP - I thought you meant in general. Many college shooters can’t hit on the move and are more catch and shoot. Maar is very solid with C&S but on the move I’d rather see him get all the way to the tin or kick out than shoot a mid range long 2. I don’t see him trying too many on the move 3’s but wouldn’t be surprised if he has trouble with them.
Yeah, I dare him to shoot off the dribble. That doesn’t mean I’m going to leave him alone for open spot up treys. When he has the ball, I’m not going to let him get to the hole. I would rather let him shoot a off the dribble three or midrange jumper because he is not going to hit those at a high rate.
The idea of Donnal shooting off the dribble is crazy. Like everyone else on the team (except occasionally Irvin and Walton) he will catch and shoot. If he does get going from the outside it is the biggest bonus for someone like MAAR because a shot blocker will be out more on D and MAAR will have one less problem when he drives.
MAAR with a solid pull up off the dribble early against northwestern. We now know he can do it.
That’s a great sign for next year assuming he develops it.
Travelling so I haven’t watched the game yet, but I hope it looked natural.
Donnal hasn’t been consistent all year and you combine that with being his 3rd year in this system, don’t hold your breath. Donnal only scores points when the other team doesn’t guard him. If they guard him and play physical he will disappear 100% of the time. I also love how people keep saying he is ranked second in this and that and as the year goes it gets worse with each game. Here’s to hoping teske or dais can come in and play immediately with Wagner next year.
