Per his H.S. coach, Michigan commit Jon Teske posted 27 pts, 12 rebs and 9 blks as Medina (Ohio) High School won its district title.

Nice write up about the game

Here’s another http://medinagazette.northcoastnow.com/2015/03/14/ohsaa-tournament-medina-boys-win-district-hoops-title/

Beilein watching Teske vs. Shaker Heights (Esa Ahmad) tonight.

Think its more likely that he’s primarily there to watch Frankie Hughes & Garfield Heights, who plays in the prime time game subsequent to Teske/Medina.

I would say Teske is the priority… considering he’s the commit. Showing love to your commits is always important – especially before they are signed.

This falls in line with my full game review of Teske…poor rebounder for a 7 footer

2 deep Geschke 3s key for Bees, but getting killed on glass. SH missed 2 layups in 3rd

Not being at the game and having not looked at complete Teske film, here is another potential reason for the lack of rebounds. Have you ever seen a player a lot smaller just get into the legs (knees) of a taller opponent and basically makes them non-existent on the boards? Don’t know if that’s the case but I would imagine the opposing team is hyper aware of Teske and is super physical.

From the film I’ve watched, I love Teske’s size. It’s legit and he’ll be a shot blocking threat. He can step out and shoot it with space. Will be a good shot blocker and can do a decent job finishing around the rim.

Needs to improve his hands and his vertical leaping, but both of those can come with time. Agree that he’s not a great rebounder at this stage.

I’ve watched at least 4-5 full games of Teske, and am quite comfortable in saying that he’s a pretty poor rebounder for a 7 footer. I don’t care if a smaller kid is undercutting you or not…7 feet in HS is a HUGE advantage every night.

That being said, Teske is a superb shotblocker with some of the best lateral movement I’ve seen from a HS kid that tall. He’s also an excellent passer, both in the halfcourt and for outlet passes that result in transition buckets. Don’t think Teske will be hoisting 3s at UM, but I do think he’s capable of hitting out to 17 feet on the pick and pop.

Contrary to what others think though, I don’t think there is any way that Teske doesn’t RS…simply not strong enough and doesn’t box out or pursue the basketball well at all at this stage. He’s never going to be a guy that puts up 15-20 points a game, and I assume he’ll be somewhere in the 5-8 ppg range until he’s an upperclassmen.

I agree that he seems like a good fit to redshirt. Especially of Doyle/Donnal have come along by then or there are other options at the 5.

Strength and vertical athleticism will be huge for his development. Love some of the passes he makes on film, great to see from a big at that young age.

Season over for Medina. Good run though for a school that’s not really a basketball powerhouse.

Shaker Heights boys basketball beats Medina, 53-44.

Medina’s 15-12 record is deceptive…lost a lot of really close games to quality opponents. Not a bad team at all, and they were playing really good ball down the stretch.

Evan Schreck led Medina with 13 points. Jon Teske finished with 12 points and six blocks.

Teske named ‘special mention’ All-State

Saw Esa Ahmad dropped 25pts and grabbed 12 rebounds vs Teske last week. Still bothers me we didn’t land that kid. He would come in immediately and make an impact. I’ll get over it sometime

Saw some film from that game…Im sure Teske got a few blocks on Ahmad, but for the most part Esa was scoring at will against him, and Teske is no slouch in terms of altering shots. Ahmad is going to be very good in college

There’s a kid JB should have knocked down his door to get. Esa has “dog” in his game. One of the best rebounders I’ve seen and just an all around smooth game to go along with it.

I’m just tired of recruiting like we haven’t gone to a national championship game, an elite 8 and have some of the best facilities in the nation. It’s about time JB out recruits a big time program for a kid instead of expecting them to want Michigan.

Were there any concerns about Esa’s grades? Not saying there were, but if there was that’s all you need to know. Kid can play for sure.

I don’t know.

I did have multiple conversations with him last spring and he seemed well put together for his age. He didn’t strike me as a kid with grade issues but again, I have no clue outside of that.
