Keep in mind we have never been to the S16 or better without a minimum of 2 top 30 players, and a minimum of 5 top 100 players. Bottom line, for as much as we praise JB for development, he can't win beyond an average level without the requisite players.

He did so at WVU 2 times, he can do it here.
I donât care what he did at WVU, I donât care what instant impact guys he landed in 2012. In sports, those thing occurred light years agoâŚwhat have you done for me lately? No excuses, just start landing higher quality players. End of story
Yeah, because guys like Manny, Hardaway, Burke, Robinson, Stauskas and McGary weren't instant impact guys.
Yeah, Cuonzo Martin must be an ace salesman. Iâd be willing to bet right now heâll never once get his team to the national championship game.
Thereâs no question recruiting has been disappointing and needs to improve. But, from a big picture perspective, JB has achieved a lot here, and this yearâs team may end up being quite good. I donât think we are about to become Northwestern. I think once we get back to targeting hidden gems in the 30-100 range, which is the way the 2013 team was built, weâll find our groove again.
No, it wasnât. The biggest reason why we stormed our way into the National Championship game was that we had Mitch McGary, a player who was a bonafide lottery level talent. Whatever his final ranking was, he truly should have stayed the number one player in his class. JB knows how to flat out develop players but to say that we donât need elite level talent to contend for the National Championship is simply ludicrous.

I hear ya and share your frustrations, I was just stating facts even though they were a decade ago, just saying it is possible.
Who is the next top recruit we could potential get? Tyus Battle? Jamal Murray? Cassius Winston? These guys all seem like the 30-50 range players besides MurrayâŚ
A few thoughtsâŚ
1.We look like assess for pushing out Max and are left with an open schollie. Although, more PT for young guys with more potential.
2. Beilein is probably not as charismatic of a figure in recruiting as we would likeâŚold school must not be resonating lately with recruits.
3. I sure hope Duncan Robinson finds some HGH
I wonât criticize Brown for doing what he wanted to do â his life, his choice, and a decent one at that. (Even if I still reserve the right to cheer for Aubreyâs dad.)
I do share the concerns about the recruiting, and I donât think itâs just a matter of the programâs image â âcoolâ vs âuncoolâ (though that probably plays a role). I think part of the problem lies in the extreme pickiness of the staff in terms of whom to pursue. Thereâs a lot of judgmental silliness in the service of ârisk managementâ â analyzing âbirthdaysâ and âmaking sure the parents share our valuesâ. Choose good kids but donât be too picky. Itâs a numbers game: the only reason Crean gets better players is because he recruits everybody, and a few pay off. Some of them might be âhigher riskâ because they arenât from comfortable backgrounds but that just makes their scholarship that much more valuable to them, and doesnât indicate any sort of character flaw. I know the D-PSL isnât what it used to be talent-wise but the fact that the current staff wonât touch it with a ten foot pole is indicative of their extreme risk averseness. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Brutal that Cal is a better recruiting program than us.
Is Cal a better recruiting program than Kentucky?
No. Kentuckyâs class is better than theirs.
Then why was Kentucky unable to land Jaylen Brown when they desperately wanted him?
Hail, Iâve had enough dialogue with you to know that you are knowledgeable and loyal. That being said buddy, can you honestly tell me you arenât frustrated with the recruiting? I mean câmon man, itâs just getting to the point where we canât land a single primary targetâŚitâs just not very common that on court success is actually followed by regression in terms of recruiting. We simply arenât doing something right on the recruiting trail. When there are rumors floating around that assistant coaches are frustrated by JB handcuffing them, I think itâs safe to say that the frustration and disappointment is very real. At some point, it is what it is.
Weâre not to a death sentence yet. The ice is just getting thinner and we need to have a good 2016 to keep at a good level. If we can get a good 2 guard in 2016 to replace Levert, we should have a couple years of solid teams.
As a supporting group, I think weâre solid. Iâve always said we have 13 scholarships, not all have to be used on stars. But we need a couple playmakers to make the supporting roles work.
I donât doubt that weâll have an NCAA tourney team under Beilein most years. But for being such a good coach, give yourself a little more talent to work with and you can get to some more Elite 8âs
Recruiting has been brutal and it is clear at this point beilein simply does not win drawn out recruitments. IMO If battle, langford or winston donât commit soon its time to start locking up some second tier guys (ie cumberland, jefferson, daniels, aiken etc) before they blow up to much. Canât wait on guys like winston, battle and langford at the expense of the second tier guys because it clear by now it is highly unlikely Beilein wins those ones.
Could someone give an overviews of where we stand with recruits for next year? This thread is now pointless and i didnt follow 2016 recruting all that well

Jon Teske and Austin Davis are currently committed, although Davis might take a prep year. Meaning, there will be 1-2 spots open for next year. We appear to be in bad shape with every prospect we are targeting.

Yes, Iâm frustrated with the 2015 class. I liked the 2013 class and the 2014 class was âmehâ. That being said, if John Calipari and Kentucky couldnât close on Brown, then Iâm not surprised that Beilein couldnât at Michigan. Cal is literally the best in the world at this recruiting thing and Brown still chose Cal instead of Kentucky.
Seems like some posters who were "refusing to get excited" are now severely let down. Funny how that happens...
Yeah, I know there were a few posters more convinced than others, but plenty werenât completely buying the hype and crystal balls etc and now are reacting like they did.
AlwaysBlue23, why do you care about getting one and done players if we are capable of getting to the title game without any? Recruting is a means to an end, not the end itself.
Matt, we made the EE last year with 1 top 30 recruit (Glenn). McGary didnât play in league games where we earned that #2 seed with a 15-3 mark, and he didnât play in the tourney.
