Jaylen Brown - Will Likely Use OV for UM

just a side note, did we offer Brown during his visit?

I’d say 100% yes

Pretty sure there was a post on the blog about it, definite yes to my recollection.

Well when he commits on the 11th to Cal, then I will believe the rumors of a package deal.

Package deals never happen. Why would playing with Rabb (California) and Swanigan (Indiana) sway a kid from North Carolina? They’re not childhood buddies. He could find a better roster than Cal (even if they get Rabb and Swanigan).

I guess that is what I was trying to get at. I wont believe the package deal rumors until he signs with Cal.

Yeah, there’s no way the word “Michigan” would come out of Brown’s mouth again after the visit if he didn’t get one.

I can see a Swanigan/Rabb package going out to Cal, but Brown is the least likely of those kids to go out there. Plus, if this means anything, Cal is a Nike school. My mean SOMETHING if we’re not talking UK.

After the past couple days, I’m convinced of one thing - nobody knows where Jaylen Brown is heading but Jaylen Brown. Get ready for a few weeks of rumors, and nothing more. I think the odds of UM landing Brown are still low, but I think we have about the same chances as every other school on his list.

Hearing some good things about KU & Jaylen Brown... KU starting to trend upwards for the #2 overall recruit #kubball

I think Brown will ultimately be Kansas bound or he will be west coast bound to either UCLA or Cal..I think it's those three #kubball

Hopefully next week at the Nike event he has cut his list or maybe by the Jordan classic.

Hopefully he cuts his list down to the Adidas schools next week at the Nike event. That would give me a good laugh.

Chris Balas at The Wolverine has been consistently saying no way Brown comes here. He said Wagner is almost 100% coming and they are not going to put Hatch on a medical, which means the only open scholarship spot is Mr. Levert, assuming he leaves. I think that’s the only way Brown comes here, if Levert goes pro, otherwise there is a log jam where somebody’s minutes get cut.

sam webb is aligned that wagner is coming, but has indicated michigan has a shot at brown and has not made a decision on hatch. he also thinks caris stays.

Balas isn’t all that good at the hoops stuff. That’s just me.

I have not seen where Balas said that Hatch will definitely not be on medical scholarship at some point. IMO, Brown is not coming to Michigan anyway.

Nor have i.

IMHO the amount of buzz at this point relatively speaking is much less than McGary’s recruitment. I don’t think that Adidas is big enough to keep him from UK if that’s what he wants. I think Michigan is as in it as UCLA, UK, and KU which is to say, I have no clue how in it they are. I also tend to trust the CB info less than some other info, but I also don’t expect Brown to end up here. A nice happy non-perfect medium.

EDIT: IMHO for me always means In My Humble Opinion, not “Honest”

Mitch had a lot of connections to Michigan: Novak in particular. We had been recruiting him for some time. His AAU coach loved Beilein, we were close to home, there were no “advisors,” and he spent a lot more time in Ann Arbor than Brown has. So there was much more buzz for Mitch.

also interesting he said proximity plays a factor (he then edited that response, but auto response telling and mentions cold weater? Optimism running wild here)… obviously advantage south schools and maybe us (will his mom re-locate back to the mitten and/or local family a factor for UM?)

Still a number of top prospects unsigned. I imagine Kentucky will be turning up the heat on all of them including Brown. I assume it’s not a coincidence that so many elite prospects are deciding late rather than in the fall. Probably a growing trend. It makes sense for the top 10 prospects or so to wait and see what happens with all the kids declaring early for the draft.

i know he has multiple interviews, but this one and mcdonalds all american he mentions us first twice, though in his trailer we’re in the middle… nothing like over analyzing.

With him truly looking at player development, who’s leaving, emphasis on “team sport” kentucky in game coaching/development has to been an issue. Overall roster, UNC/Kansas then us probably has to excite him (even if CAL gets those guys, Martin still a wild card i think in terms of getting guys better and to the league). I think we finish in top 2 as thats the last datapoint I have to go off of from Brian Snow and Sam Webb.

My (uninformed) prediction is that we make the first cut (e.g. top 3-5 on his list). And then he drops Michigan for his top 2 or when he makes his decision.

I hope Beilein assured Brown that there is a spot for him. Because the way it’s looking right now with Caris probably staying, is that we have 0 scholarships.
