Isaiah Livers declares for 2020 NBA Draft

Schools do a write up when anyone does it. And even still isnt that more the schools prerogative anyway?

My recollection is that Izzo “made some calls” on his behalf and, based on the feedback (which I’m sure Izzo reported in an entirely objective manner), Winston decided to come back.

That, and I believe DOT for one suggested education and obtaining a degree was important to Cash and his family, and was part of the decision, so certainly I think you have to respect that even if (like me) you think Izzo had ulterior motives.

He’s flat out said he will return if he doesn’t get a handshake from a team they’ll sign him.

Yep if I recall correctly Winston made inquiries, same as Bridges coming off his freshman year, but never “announced” he was entering the draft. Some, even in the media, don’t appreciate the distinction.

I don’t think any of us were surprised that Iggy, Poole, and Charles stayed in once they did happen to announce. The difference with Livers is that he’s been pretty transparent, and has told us that he needs to hear a guaranteed contract. If you take his word, which I don’t see why you wouldn’t, then I think it’s smart to bet that he’ll be back.

i trust dot, he tends to be more right than wrong

i simply read this as isiah is looking for reasons to stay in and it would take a strong “no chance at a two way contract” to come back

people get in their feelings cause they want livers back, we all do

If livers isn’t seriously thinking about returning why is he doing interviews stating that unless he receives a guarantee contract promise (top 45 pick) he will come back and get his education. He has literally said this in multiple interviews. If he wasn’t considering coming back I think he would have just went ghost about potentially returning to school like most kids do. In fact, if I remember correctly wasn’t that the case with Wagner and Wilson. Wagner was doing interviews saying he’d be back without certain promises while Wilson was just silent.

I am asking how is Livers announcement different than Pritchard, Winston, Tillman, Wagner(Mo) and there are more. They all announced publicly as did Livers, they went through the process and went back. How is his different than those, it is common that these are announced and your wording, you are a lawyer, seem to indicate that his was different and we should all understand that.

My cat reference was you being able to answer the question without violating any of your sources as it his announcement was public. I’m an old Scout member and went nostalgic with the cat reference, thought you would appreciate it.

I think there’s a pretty real chance a lot of people are going to be disappointed with how this plays out. Gonna be going back and saying something similar to this above. Even if he doesn’t get drafted. I think a guaranteed two way after going undrafted would be good enough for him to stay in the draft.

Even a two way contract is often deemed as more favorable than returning to college.

Got ya, let me know my lengthy post above answers the question.

I just don’t think this is an issue of trust. It’s not like Dot has said he knows what’s gonna happen either way. The fact is nobody knows right now. You just have to interpret what he is saying in context with the situation. Livers will go if he gets a guaranteed contract. That’s up in the air but pretty unlikely given he won’t really have a chance to have a chance to audition much.

Yeah, but turns out that “announcement” was a mistake made by the athletic department. Now, obviously they had that graphic ready to go, so clearly it was a realistic and viable option, but I actually don’t think there would have been that type of announcement had they not published the wrong one. Def a unique situation that puts the reading of the tea leaves somewhere in the middle.

Could be right, did not think about that. Max you can make on 2 way is 385k(depends on how many days you are with the nba team). I took his guarantee deal as guaranteed multi year at least minimum deal but a two way could be all that livers wants.

Think on that for a minute. Unless the reporting is real shaky, you don’t report that a player has done something as significant as hired an agent unless you have definitely been told that.

And we even know that the ncaa ALLOWS a player to hire one without losing eligibility.

And yet the story turns to, “no agent has been hired” even though it’s legal to do so?

There’s clearly a little bit going on that some are unwilling or refusing to accept.

And here is the other part of “announcing” that has yet to be part of the discussion. Coaches need to know how this is likely to go down because they have rosters to manage. Especially so with UM this year as it is running out of scholarships.

A player that announces that he is entering the draft, comes with a ton of implications. And as such is not done casuall.

I had the same thought. If all it takes is one team to give him a guarantee as he says I think there’s a good chance he gets something. I’d lean towards him leaving at this point.

Which means less small ball 5 :frowning:
Although I see Williams forcing his way into the rotation which could open those opportunities back up.

He may leave, but if he does I’m sticking with the stance that it won’t be to get drafted. Givony’s latest had him almost 30 spots out of the top 60 and Jon Teske was rated ahead of him. He’s so far off the radar of all projections and he would have killed it in-person for workouts and interviews but now he doesn’t get the chance

Also, if Livers is leaving why did Jace announce the walk-on decision? Wouldn’t it make sense for him to be on scholarship if Livers is gone?

so assuming livers stays in draft and JC comes, i assume we just elevate jace to scholarship? otherwise we just roll open a scholarship next year (i.e. no late pushes to fill roster)
