Webb opinion is Yak leaning that way, but Howard will have a shot to “show the love”
So the thought is that Coach Yak is gone? Man that would suck, hopefully one of Juwan’s first calls is to Yak
Seems like he’s probably gone then if it’s all dependent on Juwan giving him some kind of great pitch
That James Brown Live At the Apollo album Norlander has for avatar is one of the smokingest albums of all time. I was about to poohpooh his post, but when I saw that I assumed he must be right.
He also is of the opinion that Saddi will be staying.
This is the scenario that makes the most sense to me long term. We lose the assistant duplicative of Juwan’s expertise, keep the one with significant in-state recruiting connections:
I don’t take it as given that Michigan needs Yak to do well or that it’s tragic if he doesn’t remain. Guy obviously performed incredible feats at Michigan, but Juwan is already strongly defensively-minded. If there wasn’t a good mesh, that’s the way it goes, no? And if I were Yak I think I might be intrigued by the opportunity to go and, in a year or two, prove the value of my approach at another school. D assistant at two major schools sounds like a great path to a future D1 HC job.
Is it weird that I got emotional listening the Chris Weber talk Juwan here?
Nope. Sports are often about nostalgia. As a kid whose M bball fandom first sparked in 89 and was fully activated for the Fab5, i’m loving it. I of course dont think someone should be hired because of this nostalgia, but man is it a nice by-product. I may get some flack from the blue hairs, but i personally hope the fab 5 is all in the room for the press conference.
@umhoops, do you know any details on the Assistant Coach contracts at Michigan?
Best I can tell, Michigan’s assistant coaches have operated on 1-year contracts. This article from last spring indicates the deals were up in April (https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/2018/08/24/michigan-wolverines-assistant-basketball-coaches-get-big-pay-increases/1084922002/). Have they already signed extensions through 2020? Or were those contracts caught in purgatory when Beilein resigned?
Around when Beilein left I read they were on indefinite monthly contracts
Agreed. I believe their yearly contracts are up and they converted to month-to-month contracts. Forget where I read that, may have even been earlier in this forum.
As @kturnup and @Roy_Flan said, my understanding is that they have not signed extensions and are on monthly deals.
“And here we go.”
-The late Heath Ledger as the Joker.
-Jon Rothstein.
Ha, the basketball powerhouse that produced Quentin Richardson and Mark Aguirre, no one in recent memory, to go with a narrow 2-1 CBI Championship loss. Sounds like a talent factory to me.
circa 2008
Real nice use of the word “expected” there by ole Rothstein.
I’m a firm believer that using “expected” is not reporting.
im expecting megan good and kate upton to meet me for dinner tonight
