I can live with some of the Williams what the hell were you thinking plays, as opposed to waiting on BJ’s flashes of brilliance become even 60 percent consistent. The good has always outweighed the silly with TWill. Can’t always say that with Johns.
Turnovers are their biggest issue and I’m sure they are hearing about it.
Good job by the coaching staff/offense to put Hunter in positions to be effective !
That D by Williams was extremely encouraging. If he can play D like that I like him more as the small ball 5 than Johns since Johns just isn’t brining the offense we’d hope for.
Overall I like that both guys will get the chance though.
We are so passive when we push the ball into the front court after a miss. You want some more easy/good shots? Have a look there.
I asked in the over/under feature if this team would have over/under one draft pick in next year’s NBA draft. It was suggested that it was the easiest one to answer because Franz will be gone after this year and I think something like 98% of responders said “yes”, meaning Franz.
I think pre-season almost everyone here thought he was a top 5-10 player in the league, even if it wasn’t explicitly said. I certainly thought he was top 10, even with my skepticism on his pro career after this season.
Yeah they both fall on the “good/silly” spectrum.
Williams accepting the foul there was his only silly moment today.
Our shot clock awareness is sooooo bad
Passing casually to a non advantageous position with 7-9 seconds left in the clock is almost always a fatality.
I thought we were toast with about 2:30 left. Went from up 6 to down 2 in like 90 seconds. Livers turnover. Then a 3pt attempt by PSU…
smooth sailing from there ez dub gg
Hard to tell if Franz traveled or not. The score chyron is in front of his feet. My gut? He didn’t. Looks like he shuffled his feet in anticipation of receiving the ball which is, uh, not a travel
The refs really made that 2nd half a miserable watch…
Coach Howard trusted Terrence when it came to winning time.
I wonder if the complexion of this game looks different if some of those earlier minutes BJJ got in the 1st half would have gone to him.
Terrence has shown the ability to defend and rebound; he’s a better passer than Johns. BJ appears to be a better shooter thus far; but lest we forget TW knocked an open look down himself last game.
They both have wtf moments but TW3 is a true freshman and Johns…decidedly isn’t.
I think in my mind they both have to take minutes at the 5 to preserve Hunter’s conditioning. I’ve been impressed through the first 5 games overall with Brandon but it felt like today he almost “knew” he’d be counted on (with Davis absence) and that affected his play, felt like he was forcing the game as opposed to letting the game come to him.
If these 2 guys did nothing else but defend and rebound ruthlessly, we could cope. They’re both well rounded enough to bring more, but my challenge to them would be to get after it on the glass and be in your opponents hip pocket 24/7.
Then the points, assists, etc would come more naturally.
Yeah, someone made a comment arguing that it was a bad move to not give Williams a shift in the first half, which made him enter cold. I’m not entirely convinced that Juwan planned on giving him any shift until Johns once again looked shaky.
Yeah I wasn’t sure how good TWill would fair at the 5, but he looked fine from a defense/rebounding perspective when he was in as you said. If he was able to hold his own in clutch, then I wish he would have gotten more time earlier in the game as well.
I think the decision to go with Williams had more to do with wanting to switch everything on defense.
You may be right, he may not have planned too but I think this game highlights the need to have TW ready to step in as well.
There were a few possessions in the first half where BJ did not look sharp and had back to back turnovers in one series; kind of wish that had been the impetus for a TW look.
The chemistry that TW and HD have is another reason I think TW should get more minutes. We’ve all seen their 2 man game out of those horns sets especially; it’s evident they’ve played a lot of high level ball together and being that AD is out and HD is going to have log many more minutes, I think it makes sense to pair TW with HD more than we saw tonight.
I get that there aren’t a lot of minutes at wing with Franz and Livers but it’s not like either of those guys were bringing much to the table that couldn’t warrant some TW at the 4 minutes.
I kinda figured that PS over aggressiveness would put Michigan in a position to win at the end. Offensive consistency down the stretch and at the line would’ve made this more of a clear separation
I didn’t catch it, but what was PSU’s personnel offensively the last couple possessions? I think they didn’t have either big on, right? The move to Williams may have been more matchup driven than just him over Johns?
I believe it was. PSU went small ball. I’m not positive, but PSU called a timeout to draw up a play, before the inbound pass the commentator said Michigan looked confused, then we called a TO, and Williams was in after our timeout.
I think we might’ve went to Williams after our TO to match PSU’s (lack of) size.
It definitely threw them off when we switched the ball screen. They were not expecting that
Sure glad they gutted one out. Phenomenal defense by Eli on the ball not fouling and creating a very difficult shot opportunity and props to TW grabbing the defensive board as we had been giving up waaay too many of those.
