Game 29: Nebraska at Michigan Open Thread

Davis got his customary foul in

Nothing like a little Nebraska to set you right

JB with a teaching moment for JH

John Beilein will make you better…

Brandon Johns is far from toast. He’s been asked to play an unnatural position all season because it was the best chance for him to see the floor and it limited the playbook for him. He looked great against Indiana and then lost in his few chances since. He is going to be just fine.

Say what you want about Dakich but he is never boring. ā€œThis game needs to end because I need to go to the bathroom.ā€ :joy:

I like John’s and was high on him coming out of that game. The toast comment was about the rest of this season. One thing John’s has going for him over Castleton is he’s a big body. Castleton needs more time in the weight room,
But he (Castleton) might be able to make plays with limited minutes in the tournament.

Edit: added clarification in last sentence.

I agree. It will be interesting to see how Johns vs Castleton improve over the next couple of years. I’ll put my bet on Johns having the most improvement and impact in years 3 and 4. What do you guys think?

too early to guess for me. if castleton can shoot from the outside he could be scary good

The only negative in this game -13 turnovers.

tuned into the game late. what’s Mathew’s injury? hopefully just a ā€œtake a breakā€ kinda scratch

I just love this recruiting class as a whole. I’m very high on both Castleton and Johns long term. Didn’t have much day one production but this is the type of 5 man recruiting class that sustains a top-10 program. It’s what was missing the years following the first time JB got the team to the national title.

Next year the team could be two deep at every position.

PG - Simpson and DeJulius
SG - Poole and Bajema
F - Iggy and Wilson
F - Livers and Johns
C - Teske and Castleton

And even if Iggy and/or Poole go pro, there’s enough versatile talent on the wings to survive. And the staff is doing due diligence with a replacement like Quinones as well. What a great time to be a Michigan basketball fan. And of course there’s more games to win this year

I think Castleon’s emergence helps Johns move back to the 4 position long term. Maybe Johns can be a swing 4-5 player, but like Livers I want to see him develop as a forward and be a mismatch for a lot of opponents.

I really hope we get Quinones. He would play right away IMO!

I’m eager to see more of Castleton’s skill. Word on the street is he has some Wagner like capabilities. Anxious to see the tools he has in the toolbox.

No Eli Brooks?

You guys might want to relax on the Castleton bandwagon. He played great and I loved it but come on. I saw Donnal do this once and we saw Johns do it against Indiana. There’s a chance he doesn’t score 11 points total for the rest of the year.

Probably shouldn’t write off Eli, Nunez or even Davis just yet. But I believe the 10 guys listed all have higher ceilings and the versatility to crack the rotation next year in some form depending on who goes pro, and I just have a hard time seeing Eli be that guy with DDJ’s oncoming emergence

Sarcasm. His fate for next season is sealed I believe.
