Game 28: Michigan State at Michigan Open Thread

Yeah seriously I cannot believe he went to that again in the 2nd half

Goins with the game of his life combined with Mathews’ bipolar offensive nature just too much to overcome.

Very impressed with Spartans; they look more versatile without Ward hogging 30% of their possessions with low eFG% post ups. Hope he’s back for the rematch.

Hope Purdue can win out preventing MSU a share of the title. I really believe Michigan can win in EL. MSU can’t play that well again IMO that was their best performance of the year, my wife’s a spartan and I’ve watched plenty of games this season. :man_shrugging:

The biggest surprise to me is how much we struggled to defend Winston. I know he’s had a huge year but we had always held him in check. Today he got what he wanted. I guess we denied him the 3 ball but he was money inside, and consistently found open teammates.

I just haven’t been sold on Villanova all season and they are completely collapsing. They’ve lost like 4 of 5 or something and I’ve seen a lot of those games. I can understand disagreeing, but add in the in conference aspect, and that was the harder test.

This is a REAL minor thing in the grand scheme of things, but I really wonder why Brooks played over DDJ in the second half. I thought DeJulius gave some real outstanding defensive minutes, comparing to Brooks who looked fine, but nothing to write home about.

When Iggy missed that front end I got a really bad feeling about things. Believe it was 51-47 at the time, after several missed chances to extend what was a six-point lead. Ugh.

Closer to 12 I believe

For Winston to have gone off like he did, you might as well let him get his and lock down everyone else.

Z didn’t have his legs under him the way I’m used to for the whole game, imo.

But I worried that Winston would have had a year of being told he got taken apart - not shocked that he got one over. Hope Z pays him back - and that he gets a fair whistle at the Breslin.

We also had that travel call against us…that was actually a pretty bad mistake that sucked out the momentum imo.

Poole’s turnover in that stretch was particularly brutal.

Lol it was a joke. MSU and Winston were great today, coaching was not the problem

Things were going better when Teske was involved early and he was largely anonymous offensively after we went up 51-45.

I would say Minnesota maybe Michigan’s best road conference win.

Villanova is not the Villanova of old, but I think Villanova would beat Minnesota on a neutral floor.

We can’t win if he does. I know Z can do better than that. Today wasn’t his day.

The postgame presser is gonna be must watch TV for me.

Somebody with better technical skills than me, needs to break down the scoring differential during those times our ā€œweirdā€ lineup was on the court in both halves.

I’d love to see the result. And Brooks …please. Is there any reason he plays at all right now? Even for a minute?

I think Brooks came in for Poole after a couple of bad possessions for Poole. Came in for defense.

I mean, I’m not gambling anything on Ricky P, but I’ve seen both teams and I feel very strongly that Minnesota has more talent this year. Anyway, I don’t really care compared to how annoyed I am with our miserable play today.

Well we know Michigan can’t win by giving all kinds of open looks from 3 and at the rim.
