Game 20: Illinois at Michigan Open Thread

Hustle plays, guarding, rebounding…all of that is based off energy.

Yep. No need for a podcast segment either. Skip right to the MSU preview.

Its one thing to lose, but the most alarming thing for me is how 6"0 guards are getting to the rim at will. How does this happen?

This seems concerning. The difference in athleticism at guard isn’t something that is going to change. At least, not this season.

This was the only outcome I dreaded. Banner on the line. Means so much on so many levels. Get absolute ly blown out on every conceivable level. Oh yeah, and Ayo out.

We can’t keep up because we’re trying to be in their grill all the time for some reason, playing a 16% three point shooter as if he were Steph Curry.

Leaving in the starters. Ok, btt rematch

Jay Bilas attempting humor is exactly the cherry this sh*t sundae deserves.

I noticed when Frazier hit a 3 that he was basically splitting 2 defenders - neither of them were directly between him and basket or up guarding him. So either guys switching too quickly, not staying with the player to pass him off, or they were in some sort of weird man-to-zone concept where the gaps were exposed.

Who on this board didn’t expect the Illini’s quickness to be an issue in this game?

Have you watch them play at all this season?

This isn’t about legs. It’s about the oppositions athletes being dominant attacking off the bounce.

It’s just surprising it’s this exacerbated.

Their defense is excellent. It’s extended pressure on the ball which makes our catches tougher and negates catch and shoots. Unlike everyone else running pack line they try to keep you on one side of the court, ice a bunch of screens and funnel drives to the baseline and Kofi. We weren’t ready for that. Credit to Illinois.

If we get them again:
More baseline screen and rolls

Keep the post up high for baseline drives

Scout where help comes from (I didn’t see enough to know where they were bringing help

Work on the Beilein drive and get two feet in the lane to finish strong

Spread the offensive spots out higher to create back door lanes.

Man, even when we’re losing by 20 our kenpom lineup goes up against starters. Jeez

You still have the volume on?!

If you told me Jace was gonna get 4 minutes I would’ve bet the house on Michigan

Underwood thinks the starters are ducking Illinois with 3 and change left to go in this one. Hardass mode continues.

I said I want Jace to play 3 minutes. Not like this.
