If any team can take away Simpsons ability to get downhill with one defender that does not need help we are going to struggle to get our shots behind the arc when those shooters dont move or cut to an open space.
This offense depends on penetration to create space for the shooters.
A lot of you want to act like the reason for the team struggling right now is complicated, when itâs really simple: Michigan lost their second most indispensable player and they donât have the pieces on the roster to recover from it. The end.
True, but thatâs not why Wagner blew an easy lay up or why DDJ had two fouls and a costly turnover. There are bad lapses digging themselves in a hole, and the players know it.
This is just isnât a very good team without Livers. Expect about .500 at home and O-fer on the road for the time being. We are about the 12th best team in the conference.
Michigan wants to ball screen and put shooters around the PnR. When the shooters arenât nailing open shots, defenses can clog the lane and shut down the ball handler and roll man. Now Michigan needs to score in different ways and some guys are just looking uncomfortable trying to find those ways.
Iâll agree with you to a point I think there are some lingering issues like turnovers that have plagued this team the whole year that doesnât hinge on livers being in or outâŚwe were turning it over at a stupidly high rate in the Bahamas tooâŚissues like that shouldnât be happening
Exactly. I think we all realize weâre missing Livers, but thatâs no excuse for low effort, low mentality, lack of attention to anything like detail playing.
You cannot tell me we played up to our ability in that half. We just didnât.
I personally will enjoy this second half a lot more if we put score Penn State by (at least) 10. I made sure to tweet Juwan at halftime. Iâm hoping he saw it.
