Even Beilein couldn’t make this current roster better at shooting with 3 additional NBA players. Learn to have nuance. Many of the problems this team has are the same from last year.
For me the game turned in the first half when the ref incorrectly called an out of bounds ball off of Teske. The steam went out of Michigan after that call. The players know home team refs when they see them.
Some of the same shooting problems yes, but the Defensive problems are new this year. The defense has regressed with many of the same high end guys from last year.
And minus the drop pick and roll coverage a very similar scheme to last year. Like Dylan said in the recap, these guys individually just aren’t performing at a high enough level, especially teske.
We’re missing Livers, underrated on defense and probably the best athlete on the team. Matthews covered a lot of holes for us last year. Add on increased offensive burden on X and Teske due to departures and lack of proper replacements/improvement from the sophomore class sans DDJ and you get what we got.
Yes having a true three and D wing who can guard 3’s, 4’s, and even 5’s in a pinch who shoots 50% from three out with a pulled groin must be somebody’s fault.
Why are people lumping Castleton in with Nunez? You are on glue if you don’t think Colin is a D1 player. He just needs time to develop like most players close to 7 feet.
Lots of hot takes on the board this year man. Just got to get used to the new normal. Not every opinion is going to based in advanced stats and understanding of the game. Castleton has the skillset. Game is still moving too fast for him and he’s too indecisive on offense. Glad he’s a piece on our board though, for the future. I’m not even going to close the door on Nunez decidedly. Still, depending on one’s philosophy, there’s a case to be made that they both shouldn’t be receiving the minutes they are.
Actually a conspiracy every game, it isn’t a question.
Completely agree with the idea that DeJulius needs more minutes. Not great to see this on my timeline after the game though, just hope it doesn’t cause some kind of locker room friction. You can’t be liking this on your twitter as a player, I hope it was somehow an accident.
Castleton must not be showing much consistency with the pick-and-pop in practice. His high school film showed an ability to shoot and put the ball on the deck for a couple dribbles to attack a close out. I think he’ll get better as a post player, but being a stretch four/five is where I think his potential is.
He had a take in Atlantis where he started in the high post by the right elbow, spun to his left, got a step on his man and had a nice running layup that the guy guarding him had no chance of blocking. I feel like stuff like that is much more in his zone than what he’s being trying to do recently, which is more typical back to the basket stuff that obviously doesn’t work with his lack of strength. Then when he doesn’t gain any position he kinda panics and gets it stolen.
Caslteton is taking to long to go into his offensive move. At this point make a move if double teamed kick it back out. He seems determined to force it with bad result.
As far as DDJ he should have been in the game instead of Nunez who should get no run at this point. Not sure what is being seen in practice with Nunez because in game footage it is ugly.
DDJ on the other hand has been making plays and should be rewarded with more responsibility (more minutes).
Castleton is probably used to going against his own guys in practice when there is no double team ever coming so he can take his time with post moves. Different story in the games when he’s he so deliberate it works to his detriment.
