Game 14: Michigan at Purdue Open Thread

Definition of travel is picking up pivot foot then putting it down again after dribble, or just picking up the pivot after the catch.

Do you think that 2013 M vs OSU game was the best of THJā€™s Michigan career? It certainly was a memorable one. Just a great college basketball game!

I ref with Canadien guys here in AK and they love FIBA rules. Almost had a chance at a ref bid to Arctic Winter Games before COVID shut her down.

I especially love the timeout rules for FIBA. What is it, only coach can call TO, and has to be during a dead ball? So no players on court have ability to call TO, nor any situations where players dive on loose ball and both coaches and players call for TO.

You mean because he scowled and strutted his way through that second half making four three-pointers and firing everyone up and just in general making that game more memorable than all the other ones combined that I attended, even though all the mark he matchups that year were classic battles? If so then yes. Agreed.

Seriously, in a year of fantastic conference battles, that game really does stand out for me. Had all the stuff Hollywood loves. I broke my toe kicking a chair after Morgan missed the layup against Indiana, and Burkeā€™s strip of Appling was insane, but the OSU game was still the highlight for me.

In the ā€˜ask me anythingā€™ thread I was fantasizing about putting together a library of great Michigan games of the last decade. But Iā€™d be satisfied with just a highlight reel. . . starting with the UCLA game, going toā€“whatā€“the aborted take-off and tourney championship?

Maybe do a tournament bracket of classic games and do polls to vote on who advances. Letā€™s get weird. Itā€™s good summertime content when thereā€™s not much going on besides recruiting.

Letā€™s hope we need to add one or more from this season to the pileā€¦

X has improved offensively but defense still gave him space bc he isnā€™t a good shooter(heā€™ll make it if given time and space). The spacing wasnā€™t as good with X and Teske on the floor and Livers out with an injury really destroyed any spacing Michigan had on offense.

FIBA timeouts go through the scorerā€™s table. So, if the coach wants a timeout, he notifies the table, and they will hit the horn when the next timeout opportunity occurs (basically, at the next dead ball). Itā€™s great at the college level, but awkward in HS. Typically, itā€™s volunteer students working the table, and they are very confused by the rule, wonā€™t hit the horn, and we can miss the timeout.

For sure, but X also ran the PnR at a D1 best efficiency (or at least close to it), which mitigated much of his shooting struggles and made him a very good offensive player in year 3/4.

He was also someone who understood his shooting struggles, and turned himself into an efficient shooter as well given limited attempts. You love to see that as opposed to a guy who would put up threes regardless of how bad they were at it (Teske to an extent)
