Maybe, maybe not. If they’re having as much fun this year as it seems, and there’s playing time available for them, I suspect one of them might decide to come back. Neither of them is likely to garner any NBA interest, so it’s the NCAA or Europe.
Fingers crossed for Eli. Championship teams always seem to have two lead guards and his defense was certainly missed today.
It’s not that I don’t trust in Frankie, or in any of them. I just have a pretty firm policy of expecting freshmen to play like freshmen until proven otherwise, and maybe still after that.
Well Car started 2/8
So 6/13 isn’t so bad
The disappointing thing is they got punched in the mouth and didn’t respond. Nobody has really been that physical with Michigan and there was very little fight. I will be interested to see what happens the next 2 games. Maryland isn’t great but has won at Wisconsin and Illinois. I doubt they will be intimidated at Michigan and Maryland will remember what happened last game. Trevion Williams will try and bully Michigan like he did last year.
Unlike some, there are teams I hate losing to a lot more than Minnesota in a rematch in their gym (aka their stupid gym).
Need to go on another tear, win our next twelve, head into the tournament on the upswing.
Apparently Chaundee asked to be taken out. Still don’t think Zeb was the move tho
Look, everyone sucks today. So we can bitch about Juwan, but who exactly has played well? Brown has been decent but has four fouls. Who do you out in then? I don’t like Jackson or Williams playing… But someone has to.
As for Davis, he’s been bad, but so has Dickinson. Easy to bash Howard when none of the players are doing well.
I think the game thread bitching is because you would rather have guys who are playing poorly, but can play well in over guys like Davis, Zeb, or Williams who you’re breathing a sigh of relief if you play even with the other team while they’re in. Unless there’s an effort level thing. If so, fair play IMO. I personally didn’t see anything like that, but maybe that was it. But I will say that weird sub patterns are kinda becoming a thing.
Also worth noting it’s not a Juwan exclusive thing. Izzo’s rotations this whole season have been atrocious.
Putting in Zeb for Chaundee when we cut it to 6 and had a ton of momentum is the main complaint. Sounds like brown asked for a breather, but put in Johns, who has proven he can come up with some nice plays in the B1G, and play a big lineup for a minute or two.
Or play a struggling Dickinson more minutes instead of a mediocre Davis who almost assuredly isn’t going to spark a comeback with his play.
I would be very interested in an end of regular season feature from the owner of this website breaking down various on-off splits. At that point I think the data will be enough to be meaningful. I’m specifically thinking of a “Smith and Dickinson off the court” one, which tends to happen once per half it seems.
On off splits can be useful at times but they are very backward focused and easier to misuse than use properly.
The sample sizes are way too small to get something useful when they are unadjusted for level or competition, game state, etc. and even if you adjust for all that, the sample size is too small.
It’s always tempting to use them (and I’m guilty of it) but I think they cloud perspective a lot.
For example, Zavier’s on/off splits in B10 play weren’t great last year but he also sat the Nebraska game which was a blowout.
Even at the end of the season they’d be too small?
In a word? Yes.
Fair enough, don’t do this feature in that case. This would be why I do not operate a basketball-related site.
Agreed, and I have to admit to my share of over-reaction. Fortunately or unfortunately, thanks to Covid, I have been watching all the games from start to finish. In the Beilein era, there were games worse, far worse, than the one today. But I hardly ever watched more than ten minutes of those games.
