Franz Wagner to announce decision sooner or later

Been trying not to get my hopes up but man. Franz coming would make me so much more excited for this season.

I’ve had my hopes up for some time. I had an opinion that I wouldn’t express publicly for fear of “jinxing” it. Obviously I was wrong, though, because I thought we’d know by the end of last weekend and had thought that for a few weeks. I also thought Franz would be on campus by July 2. Just goes to show how little I know! Still…my hopes are still up! :slightly_smiling_face:

Your reading of the situation wasn’t necessariy wrong. And I’m sure they would have wanted him in by the first summer practice. But Howard has explained why things are taking a bit longer. There’s the national team to sort out now. Pretty obvious why Howard is involved in that conversation.

Franz raises the ceiling of this team exponentially IMO

Yeah, I think it’s really cool that Howard is so supportive of Franz playing for his nation’s U18 team. With as much basketball, and at a high level, that Franz is playing this summer, “if” he comes he will certainly be ready. Not that fundamentals aren’t important, they really are, but in these early practices fundamental are primarily what Juwan is working on with the guys.

It would be nice to begin bonding with his teammates, but the opportunity to represent one’s country is a big deal, I think very important to Franz, and Juwan is honoring and supporting that opportunity. It shows me that Juwan will definitely be a player’s coach!

For those that don’t know, Dr Axel Schulz is Mo and Franz Wagner’s dad.

Yes, pretty much just figured that out. Dr. Schulz (PAX) told me if I did a little more research I could figure out who he is. Well, I did that research! Golly, this would be great!

CoryR is reporting that Franz Wagner will be attending Michigan next year.

Wow! Is this Christmas in July or what.

You know Cory, I have EVERY reason to believe this is true, but I REALLY want to hear it from Franz or Juwan. I believe PAX, I really do. At least if he is who I believe him to be, I do. And I know Franz is not a hype kind of young man. I think he is VERY humble, talented, skilled, but humble, and so he’s not about to make a big production number out of it, but boy it would be great to hear, “Yes, Franz is enrolled for the fall term at the University of Michigan and will be a member of the Michigan Basketball Team!” When I hear that, my vertical will improve greatly because I will be jumping for joy! In the meantime, I chose to (cautiously) believe PAX (Dr. Schulz!).

So if signed LOI went in with the other paperwork. Juwan wouldn’t even have to worry about a minor infraction from the Rome interview.

just a nit but it wouldn’t be a LOI at this stage (signing period is over), but rather a financial aid agreement, which is less (maybe not at all, effectively?) binding on the student athlete, but would no longer make the relevant rule applicable if i understand correctly. (Same thing that Jaden Mcdaniels signed for UW a couple days before Juwan got hired, IIRC.)

and on this point, Quinn said he was told by someone this wasn’t yet the case, but interestingly, the aggregated stories of “potential violation!” from mlive/freep/etc said they got either no comment/no response or that there was “no recruiting announcement at this time” from M AD.

Thanks😀 for the info.

I believe USA Today had a blurb about it today, too. I just think, and certainly hope, it’s a non story and absolutely nothing will come of it, OR, and even better, there is signed paperwork that would preclude any recruiting “violation.” In fact, I’m beginning to believe the latter may be the case.

It makes sense that Juwan would let Franz make any announcement. He could certainly know that he can talk about Franz without wanting to explain why.
